YOUR INHERITANCE - PART 3

TUESDAY 23 JULY 2024

It is God's grace that strengthened our position as the heirs of His promise. So the description of the promised inheritance introduces the plan concerning God's earthly and eternal purpose for us. In effect hence: Your being operative in the state of grace in which you now qualify for the inheritance, is due to God's all-encompassing purpose for the saints in the Kingdom of light. Pauline epistolary version of my aphorism reads, "And giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of His holy people in the kingdom of light" (Colossians 1:12 NIV). More below!

Reference: Galatians 3:18 New International Version (NIV)

"For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in His grace gave it to Abraham through a promise."

Like I mentioned in part 2, the inheritance does not depend on the law, which implies that it is not rooted in mosaic covenant, which is the first covenant. The mosaic law was replete with rules, dictates, precepts and regulations to be followed and not to be violated (dos and don'ts), unlike the new covenant where the grace of God has been poured out without measure, as well as His mercy which runs deep and forgives sins without any reservation and record keeping. To that effect, Hebrews 9:15-17 reads:

"This is why Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant: through His death, so that those who are called may receive the eternal inheritance he has promised, since He died to set them free from the violations committed under the first covenant. For whenever there is a testament—a will—the death of the one who made it must be confirmed because a will takes effect only at the death of its maker; it has no validity as long as the maker is still alive. Even the first testament—the first covenant—required blood to be put into action" (NKJV).

In order to qualify the saints for the promised inheritance, Jesus had to come and die for the sins of mankind, making Him the Mediator and Negotiator of a new covenant, which is an entirely new agreement uniting God and man, so that those who have been called by God may receive the fulfillment of the promised eternal inheritance. If Christ's death did not take place, the inheritance would've been dependent on fulfilling all the dictates of the law, meaning it that is not dependent on grace. But God, in His grace, gave it to Abraham through a promise. Since a death has taken place as the payment which redeems us from the law, once you are saved by God's grace, you become free and are made a new creation in Christ, as well as a heir according to the promise, because if you belong to Christ, automatically, you become Abraham's seed.

Beloved, we were never qualified to become the seed of Abraham and partake of the promised inheritance until Jesus died on the cross, since we were all subject to the old covenant law. But when the right time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, subject to the law (Galatians 4:4 NIV). To do what? To redeem all of us under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. How did Christ redeem us from the law? Through His death on the cross. This is exactly what Hebrews 15:17 denotes: For where there is a will and testament involved, the death of the one who made it must be established, for a will and testament takes effect only at death, since it is never in force as long as the one who made it is alive. Got it? We have been freed and recused from the curse of the law through His death!

Now that we are in Christ, we are God's own children, who have totally broken free from the law of sin and death. So we now occupy this new marvellous realm of ever-rising glory where God's grace is bigly at work as a result of our salvation. To that effect, this important truth has become a reality in our lives, and that is Galatians 4:6-7 which reads, 'And because we are His children, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, "Abba, Father." Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ' (NKJV). Now the Spirit of God dwells in your heart, who is the guarantee towards the earthly and eternal inheritance God gave to Abraham through a promise. Stay tuned for part 4. Shalom!

Exuberant Declaration:

The grace of God is the central intelligence influencing my life in heavenward direction, and I receive more and more of my inheritance in Christ as I live habitually on earth with the consciousness of being a worthy seed of Abraham, plus having my heart prepared for eternal inheritance in the endless ages of eternity. Glory to God!
