TREASURES OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE - PART 1
TUESDAY 08 NOVEMBER 2022
Where do the treasures of true wisdom and knowledge come from? Like everything else in the world, it comes from one source: God's mystery, namely Christ. He is not just the Son of God, He is also called the wisdom of God. The Bible says, "For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily" which equally means that He contains in Himself all the divine attributes in the same fullness as the Father.
Reference: Colossians 2:3 New Living Translation (NLT) "In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."
Paul's prayer is that we may know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Here, Paul does not mean that in Christ, we shall find wisdom and knowledge - although it is true. Instead he means that Christ is the storehouse of goodly and precious things that come with wisdom and knowledge. The revelation in today's Scripture is about treasures associated with wisdom and knowledge. Paul is quite specific about treasures, and it implies that divine wisdom has it's own treasures, as well as knowledge.
What is "treasures"? Treasures are deposit, i.e., wealth and stored-up riches. It is a place in which high-priced goods and items of great value are laid up. So what are the treasures of wisdom? King Solomon outlined them in Proverbs chapter 4 from verses 5 to 12. It reads, "Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown. Listen, my son, accept what I say, and the years of your life will be many. I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble" (Proverbs 4:5-12 NIV).
Treasures of wisdom as listed above are: Protection (wisdom watches over you); elevation (wisdom exalts you); honour; grace; enthronement (wisdom positions you where your influence becomes very important); long life; rightness and many more. Remember that the Bible says, "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!" (Romans 11:33 NKJV). This shows that the treasures of wisdom are vast or boundless in nature. The Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of wisdom, can enrich us with all spiritual gifts, which are part of the treasures Paul has revealed and He also grants us power for their usefulness.
Godly wisdom, also known as divine wisdom, is found in Christ alone and it comes with all of the above mentioned treasures. Therefore, to have Christ as our present-moment possession is to house the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and in having Him, we can gain divine wisdom in its fully developed manifestation. Stay tuned for part 2. Shalom!
