THE TREASURES OF WISDOM AND KNOWLEDGE - PART 1
Treasures are precious, invaluable, cherished and valued items, stored in a hidden and secured place for the sake of keeping them safe. In today's topic, all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are resident in Christ, but is now available to those who believe and have in Christ in them. Today's topic focuses on the treasures of wisdom in Christ, while part two of it will focus on the treasures of knowledge in Christ.
Reference: Philippians 2:3 New Living Translation (NLT) "In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."
All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in one Person, Christ Jesus. Looking at all of creation, no one can argue that God is a wise genius. But what do we mean when we say that God has hidden all of treasures of wisdom and knowledge in Christ? It means that Christ possesses the greatest wisdom and knowledge beyond the norm invested in Him by God. Christ is unusual. He knows absolutely everything about everything and all things, including every being that is created. He knows intimately all characteristics and abilities of everything created, both living and non-living. In other words, God's wisdom is evident in all of creation but He created them by Christ.
For instance, when we consider how the earth's surface was formed, The Bible mentioned that God laid the foundations of the earth and the measures thereof. He stretched the line upon it to determine its dimensions, and also did the surveying. God Himself measured the height width and depth of the space. Have you thought about the wisdom that supports the earth's foundations or laid its cornerstone? As the wisdom of God was working on perfecting creation, the morning stars were singing together and all the angels were shouting for joy from another dimension, because its a possible dimension outside the heaven and earth's surface since God was creating them (Job 38:4-7). Indeed this wisdom is a spiritual force, unaffected by creation.
Now let's examine our referenced Scripture again. It reads: In Christ are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. That means the hidden wisdom and knowledge by which God created the world is known as "Christ". Christ is full of hidden wisdom and a mystery that was not revealed until the fullness of time came (see Galatians 4:4). Genesis chapter one also informed us that in the beginning (time), God created the heavens (space) and the earth (matter). Now watch this: John 1:1-2 (NIV) reads, "In the beginning (time) was the Word (wisdom), and the Word (wisdom) was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." Notice the last two main clauses: Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." Remember, in this passage, John was talking about Christ. Put simply, Christ is the wisdom that made the whole creation - for through Him all things were made.
The same God has put Christ in our innermost being as our wisdom that grants us spiritual understanding as Christians. The Bible says, "...you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30 NIV). Beloved, Christ Jesus has become our wisdom from God. That means, if all the treasures of wisdom are in Christ, and we have Christ in us, what does that tell us? Did you know that all the hidden wisdom of God has been revealed in us? It is "Christ in you" (Colossians 1:27). This wisdom is described as "the glorious riches of divine mystery." It produces righteousness, holiness and redemption. And the knowledge promotes grace and truth and grants us inheritance among those who are sanctified (Acts 20:32 NIV). Shalom!
