THE SON BECAME FLESH - PART 2

WEDNESDAY 13 MARCH 2024

While on earth, the Lord Jesus had the right or ability to demonstrate the physical capability of free will and self-direction because He was a human being. Also He was prone to challenges, trials and elements of change, influenced by external impression, but in the midst of all, He yielded to the Spirit. More below!

Reference: Hebrews 2:14 New Living Translation (NLT)

"Because God's children are human beings - made of flesh and blood - the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could He die, and only by dying could He break the power of the devil, who had the power of death."

Flesh and blood is used to emphasize that someone is subject to human life or humanity. It demonstrates the unit of heredity that sponsors the characteristic attributes belonging to the natural man and the way he speaks or responds (his innate capacity) or does things in this present world.

The Son of God came to do for us, that which any other flesh could not and cannot do. He took on flesh and blood, and functioned in the earth as human, yet He never lived a sinful life. He overcame the power of sinful lifestyle in His "flesh and blood" appearance. Yet God made Him, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with Him through Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT).

When you hear the Lord Jesus saying that the "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit", it implies physical and spiritual origins respectively. Flesh and blood is expressive of earthly origin, with prompted human nature and weaknesses, meaning that Jesus sustained corporeal expressions and experienced human weaknesses while on earth, yet He remained victorious over all the elemental spiritual forces of this present world. To that effect, Hebrews 4:15 reads, "For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin" (NIV).

As a human being, Jesus fulfilled the weight of His agonizing moments and consciously endured an infelicitous suffering, filled with distressing and ignominious experiences, as He journeyed to, and was nailed to the Cross. In Luke 22:41-44 (MSG), the Bible mentioned that He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond His disciples, knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." Instantly, an angel from heaven appeared to Him and strengthened Him. And being in anguish, He prayed more earnestly, such that His sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Beloved, after speaking directly to His Father in heaven, as His custom normally was, He assured Him of His continued support in the enterprise of yielding to fate that still lied before Him, by sending an angel to strengthen Him. Have you truly acknowledged why I stated in part one of this topic that Jesus relied on the power of God to get to the finish line?

Jesus didn't fulfil His earthly purpose without the sovereign power of God. So God was totally in control. This is why, although the rulers of this age functioned in veil when it came to Christ's purpose for mankind on earth, they still carried out God's divine purpose - in doing so. To that effect, the Bible says, "None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory" (1st Corinthians 2:8 ESV). Stay tuned for part 3. Shalom!
