TEARING DOWN THE EVIL ALTARS
When it was time to end the evil altar disturbing Gideon in their bloodline, the angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Gideon's father, Joash the Abiezrite. The Angel sat exactly at the same point where Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites. That was significant because God was going to use him in a higher dimension to destroy the forces of Midian and liberate Israel. But before he could do so, there were family limitations and forces to be dealt with - especially the altar his ancestors and his immediate father built to a false God known as Baal. The altar had been enforced on behalf of their family for years. But let's see how he gained freedom from the generational issues existing in his family.
Reference: Judges 6:25 New Living Translation (NLT) 'That night this happened. God said to him, “Take your father’s best seven-year-old bull, the prime one. Tear down your father’s Baal altar and chop down the Asherah fertility pole beside it. Then build an altar to God, your God, on the top of this hill...'
God instructed Gideon one night: Tear down your father's Baal altar...then build altar to God, your God. Baal altar was an evil altar erected in Gideon's family even before Gideon was born. The altar was either working against their progress or for them in the wrong way. For instance, if Gideon's forefathers placed a curse on his family, the curse would be transferred or handed over to his generation through the Baal altar. That's how they transfered the curse to a generation yet to be born. As long as Gideon was the seed of Joash the Abiezrite, he would automatically inherit the problem associated with the Baal altar.
Baal was an evil altar. An evil altar is an evil place or bank that is opened by an individual in a particular generation over a family. The purposes of an evil altar is to programme and store evil words, ordinances and curses that will be activated to persist in a bloodline of a family. When those evil ordinances are stored, they are pronounced as a curse to prevail in the family over time and to be transferred from one generation to another through offspring. So an evil account had to be formulated in Gideon's family in the form of Baal altar and word deposits were made in the form of enchantments and curse because evil altars outlive people.
Evil altars can be in form of an object, a tree, a cave, a place, a big rock, a pool of water that doesn't dry up because it lives longer than people. Witches and evil priests know that they may not live longer than their generation, so they store information at the altar that will determine the existence and direction of every person alive, born into that family, including the unborn. When words are put into the altar, the altars have the ability to convert it into a lifestyle. You will live according to the words programmed into the altar. You marry or remain single according to what has been said or prosper according to their dictates. So because of the evil altar, Gideon could not experience what the Lord promised them.
When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon and told him "The Lord is with you, mighty warrior " (Judges 6:12 NIV), Gideon was not convinced. Thus Gideon replied, 'Pardon me, my lord', "but if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our ancestors told us about when they said, 'Did not the Lord bring us up out of Egypt?' But now the Lord has abandoned us and given us into the hand of Midian" (Judges 6:13 NIV). Finally Gideon had to tear down the Baal altar and build an altar to the Lord there, which he called 'The Lord Is Peace.' And to this day it stands in Ophrah of the Abiezrites. The Lord's altar changed everything.
Understand this truth: strongholds like anger, addiction, abuse, inherited sickness, untimely death, staying single, and repeated affairs may be part of your family history as a result of ancient evil altars, but they don't have to be part of you, now that you're born again. You are a brand new creation in Christ Jesus. That's why the Bible says, 'Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new' ( 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV). In other words, generational rubbishes can end with you because you are now raised up with Christ having died with Him at the altar of Calvary. Another altar with new Script is in operation over your life. All you now need is to let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think' (Romans 12:2 NLT).
The Bible says, 'the weapon of our warfare are not the weapons of the world. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We tear down arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ' (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 BSB). Sometimes, it won't happen overnight but be rest assured that as you give yourself to the Word, renew your mind with the Word, and walk with God wholeheartedly, day by day, you're restored completely until you're fully made whole. Therefore rise up in faith, take charge of your life from the standpoint of Christ's victory until you demolish every family stronghold because truly, it is finished and the old news have passed away. Glory to God!
