REMINDING GOD OF HIS PROMISES - PART 8

FRIDAY 10 MAY 2024

David's generosity and kindness continued even after He became King as God promised him. Each measure and every stage of his earthly life was properly utilised and brought into play to make others feel favoured and valued in an uninterrupted manner. More below!

Reference: 1st Chronicles 17:26-27 New International Version (NIV)

"You, Lord, are God! You have promised these good things to your servant. Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Lord, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever."

After King David was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, his testimony changed. It was no longer about killing the lion and the bear in the wildernesses, it was now about nobler testimonies and money-oriented investments, equally involving the welfare of his people and a heartfelt commitment to God's clear-cut purposes with maximal satisfaction.

To that effect, he said to Nathan the prophet, "Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent." I want to build God a house. Nathan replied to the king, "Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you." Although the Lord changed David's benevolent plan and promised to establish a house for him, here is what I want us to observe: from his wilderness experience until he settled in his palace, you couldn't rob David of his generous character which exuded a heart-melting power. Of course it touched the heart of God as well.

On one occasion, after settling in his palace, he demonstrated humane treatment to several people, under the influence of his munificent commitment. For instance, David asked, "Is there anyone still left of the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for Jonathan's sake?" A servant of Saul's household named Ziba answered the king, "There is still a son of Jonathan; he is lame in both feet." (2 Samuel 9:3 NIV). So King David sent for him, and they brought him from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel. King David showed him kindness for the sake of his father, Jonathan, and restored to him all the land that belonged to his grandfather Saul, and from then onwards, Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem and ate at David's table like one of the king's sons (2nd Samuel 9:13 KJV), which implied that the King offered him continued aid of unspeakable advantage, and kept back nothing profitable from Mephibosheth.

On another occasion, the Bible notably specified that in the course of time, the king of the Ammonites died, and his son Hanun succeeded him as king, and cheerfully, David thought in line with his large-hearted nature, "I will show kindness to Hanun son of Nahash, just as his father showed kindness to me." So David sent a delegation to express his sympathy to Hanun concerning his father. Although the Ammonite commanders dishonestly and deceitfully convinced Hanun their lord, not to consider King David as genuine in his act of condolence, King David demonstrated the fruit of solicitous and desirable recompense, which was appropriate to the occasion.

Emphasized by my aforementioned information in one of the previous articles based on this topic: The positivity of his godly-inspired thought pattern captures my entire existence, plus his tactful and astonishing original liberality which he evidently exemplified on a lavish scale. Stay tuned for part 9 for the conclusive context of this topic. Shalom!
