HOW TO GAIN PROFITABLE WISDOM - PART 4

THURSDAY 08 MAY 2025

Reference: Proverbs 2:1 Common English Bible (CEB)

"My son, accept my words and store up my commands."

Having discussed the concept ingrained in verse 2 of Proverbs chapter 2, the next versified statement is: "yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures..." (verses 3-4). This is talking about seeking wisdom conscientiously and striving eagerly for understanding - in a serious way.

When it comes to this particular insight, the diversity of Biblical translations revealed the terms, "insight", "wisdom", "discernment" and "knowledge" interchangeably. However, to call out for insight - refers to the larger classification of access to spiritual understanding, conscious reasoning, mindful discernment or comprehension of the embedded truth, meaning: an accurate putting together in the mind. It is the gained intelligence of the godly ones who have accessed the cognizance of divine wisdom sourced from God's words. Got it?

So yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, it implies that you demonstrate a diligent character - based on gaining the mental acquirement of what the words from God represent, to the point of being knowledgeable about it. Simply put, acquisition of the insight suggests that you're well informed. The next verse: "If you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures..." denotes the seriousness of your heart in craving or longing for insight.

So there must be a deep longing, with a mixture of intensity in your search for wisdom and your crave for understanding. And it implies that the person is not merely searching for insight, but that they desire or want it very badly, like a hungry person searching widely for food or provisions (see also Proverbs 4:7 NIV). Gaining this insight is also concerned with observing alacritous cogitation characterized by integrating all of your spiritual senses into the experience.

To instantiate this profound verity, Johannine literature numbered as John 5:39 reads, "You search and investigate and pore over the Scriptures diligently, because you suppose and trust that you have eternal life through them..." (AMPC). Indeed, if you seek and keep on seeking insight like silver or search for it like hidden treasures, you'll obtain the realities of eternal life through them.

When you develop a sincere, consistent desire for the wisdom being sought, you'll grow in knowledge and understanding. To that effect, Pauline epistolary expression numbered as Philippians 1:9 (NLT) reads, "I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding." Stay tuned for part 5. Shalom!
