REMINDING GOD OF HIS PROMISES - PART 1

THURSDAY 02 MAY 2024

I am introducing a new topic known as "Reminding God of His promises." And in this topic, we shall consider the testimony of King David with respect to his own experience of God's promises, delivered to him by the word of mouth. The Lord of heavenly forces said to David through Nathan: "I myself took you from the pasture, from following the flock, to be leader over my people Israel. I've been with you wherever you've gone. I've eliminated all your enemies before you. Now I will make your name great—like the name of the greatest people on earth..." and more. All of these promises are a proven fact which has been experienced by Davidic lineage. More below!

Reference: 1st Chronicles 17 New International Version (NIV)

"You, Lord, are God! You have promised these good things to your servant. Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Lord, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever"

David's heart was fully persuaded to please God, and for this reason, he thought in his heart: I live in a sturdy house made of expensive, imported cedar, but the covenant chest of the Eternal lives in a temporary house made of curtains. This does not seem right. So he spoke to Nathan about building God a house, and Nathan responded, "If you want to build God a house, then do it. God is with you." Later that night, God came to Nathan and corrected his thinking about David's plan.

Shortly after the Lord God established the David's Kingship, He promised to build a dynasty for him, and assured that He would never withdraw His faithful love from his genealogy, as He did to King Saul.

After Nathan faithfully reported all that he had seen in his vision and heard from God, here is the summary of King David's thankful prayer:

"Eternal, may Your promise last forever, and may You do as You have spoken over your servant and his house. May Your name be established and magnified forever: The Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, God of Israel, is Israel’s God; and the house of Your servant David is established before You." You, my God, have revealed Your intention to establish my kingdom; therefore, I have the courage to pray before You. Now, Yahweh, you are God, and have promised this good thing to your servant. Now it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you; for you, Yahweh, have blessed, and it is blessed forever" (1st Chronicles 17:25-27 WEB).

Beloved, the promises inspired David to wonder why God had chosen him, and positioned someone as lowly as himself and his family at such a prominent place. The promises ensured the enduring stability of his house and revealed the glory of his future generation, meaning that God made him a man of distinguished importance.

What has God promised you? Have you written them down and have you testified about the already fulfilled ones? Are you in sync with the demands and pronouncement of the promises concerning you, which are yet to manifest, or have you become double-minded?

Have you allowed yourself to lose the tenacity and force of your conviction due to many trials, or even under the burdensome influences of advancing years? Great as they may be, what are you doing about them? Have your expectations waxed or grown cold, and have your faith become weak and unstable, due to negative encounters forcing you to abandon your expectations? Stay tuned for the next part. Shalom!

Scripture Reading - Psalm 37:4; Jeremiah 29:11; Psalm 84:11; Ephesians 3:20-21.

Exuberant Declaration:

I'm full of thanksgiving because of the countless benefits of God's faithfulness in my life, and I have a mouth and wisdom to appraise them in a proper manner, as I remain certain and confident of this very thing: God, who began the good work in me will continue to demonstrate His faithfulness until every aspect of His promises becomes a reality in my life and world, in Jesus' Name, Amen.
