PHONOLOGICAL AND TRANSFORMATIONAL MYSTERY - PART 7

WEDNESDAY 24 SEPTEMBER 2025

In my last article based on this topic, I stated that receiving the Holy Spirit is prerequisite to speaking with unknown tongues. This is the reason there are born again Christians who don't speak in tongues.

Yes, they believe in what Jesus has done for them on the cross in an earthen vessel made of flesh and blood, and they are saved because they have received a remission of their sins, which means that they received the person of Jesus whose redemptive provision or finished work was made possible through the natural body (Romans 6:6 KJV), but they have not received His Spirit because Jesus did not come to the earth in the "Spirit" form but in "bodily" form.

Now that His Spirit has come, if you have not received the infilling of Holy Spirit who denotes the "baptism of fire",  you may lack the miraculous ability to speak in tongues which is a sign that marks the baptism in the Holy Spirit. More below!

Reference: 1st Corinthians 14:2 New Living Translation (NLT)

"For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won't be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious."

When you speak in tongues, you will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious, denoting an inability to comprehend what is spoken. However, it's equally important to understand the details of the mystery. Thankfully, we are not limited to simply possessing the gift of tongues, meaning that we can decode what is spoken or the embodied message. To that effect, Pauline epistolary platitude reads, "So anyone who speaks in tongues should pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said" (1st Corinthians 14:13 NLT).

One of the best spiritual gifts listed in Pauline epistolary expression, which is numbered as 1st Corinthians 12:10, is known as the interpretation of tongues. It literally reads, "...Still another person is given the ability to speak in unknown languages, while another is given the ability to interpret what is being said" (NLT). In other words, the gift of tongues operates pari passu with the gift of interpretation of tongues.

What is the gift of tongues' interpretation? It is the supernatural enablement to potentially express in human language, a mysterious utterance spoken in an unknown tongue. Moreover, interpretation of tongues is not something that can be learned in any way except by bestowed impartation of the Holy Spirit, on account of His interpretive vehicle of transmission.

In essence, when you pray also for the ability to interpret what has been said, which is a special ability the Spirit grants, it doesn't always mean that the gift of interpretation must be verbalised except in church services or in public worship so as to experience intelligibility among the saints in form of solemn exhortations. To that effect, Pauline epistolary expression reads, "Dear brothers and sisters, if I should come to you speaking in an unknown language, how would that help you? But if I bring you a revelation or some special knowledge or prophecy or teaching, that will be helpful" (1st Corinthians 14:6 KJV).

So don't always assume that after speaking in tongues, that the gift of interpretation will always be made manifest by only speechification. The gift of interpretation of tongues can equally find expression through:

1. A sweeping or panoramic vision in the Spirit,

2. Dreams - where you gain the worthiness to receive higher knowledge of your spoken mystery from divine assembly, or

3. By direct revelation - which is a communication from God to a person,

4. By words in the mind during sleep,

5. By special semantic knowledge - in a conscious union with the Spirit of truth.

Beloved, the gift of interpretation of tongues comes from supernatural origin, which is rightly attributed to the Holy Spirit, who grants such particular expressions in an understanding accurately acceptable, and accompanied by transformative experience, in line with the spoken tongues. Stay tuned for part 8. Shalom!
