OUR DAILY WALK WITH GOD
Right from the very beginning, man was created and designed to walk with God. Also God desired all men to walk with Him. Think of walking with God as enjoying a walk down the street with a close friend. You'll realise that you're in close proximity. You talk, laugh, listen, and share your hearts. Your attention is focused on this person to the exclusion of almost everything else. That's how God planned it to be with man.
Reference: Genesis 3:8 New Living Translation (NLT)
'When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the LORD God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the LORD God among the trees.'
So many parents who have kids often witness the joy and excitement their young children show once they walk into the house. Most times, if you have to leave the house for work, business, or anything else, they watch at the window to wave goodbye till you're out of sight. When you return, the house echoes with their huge delight to usher dad or mum back home.
This was exactly so with God and His first human creatures, Adam and Eve. The daily interaction between God and man was so intense and natural that it was possible for God to walk about in the garden as man enjoyed His company. Yes, Adam and Eve once enjoyed God visiting the garden, heard from Him directly, and walked with Him. But one day, sin changed all that.
Before their fall, there was a deep spiritual harmony between them and their Maker. And it was the nobler side of the daily walk. The relationship remained intact until, instead of listening to God with childlike wonder, Adam and Eve chose to allow the serpent to twist and question God's Words and then fell for the serpent.
They listened to the deceptive voice of the serpent, the devil, as he planted doubts in their minds. Then they disobeyed God, separating themselves from His glory. They could no longer enjoy the company of God as usual. And out of fear and guilt, they hid from Him, knowing they had done wrong.
However, the golden news is: through the coming of Jesus and His obedience on the cross, man's disobedience was cancelled (see Romans 5:19 NIV), and His childlike relationship with God was restored back (see Romans 8:15-17). After Christ's ascension, we see God coming to walk alongside us again, in the person of the precious Holy Spirit. He is our everlasting counsellor because He's with us forever. John 14:16-17 (ESV) says, 'And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of Truth.' Now we have our heavenly fellowship restored anew and completely.
Are you still hiding from God in some way as He calls out to you today? Are you still living outside Christ and wallowing in sin and guilt, after all Jesus came to restore? It's no longer worth it. The relationship has been restored. Therefore, simply make a firm decision to believe in Jesus, accept Him and declare His Lordship over your life, so you can enjoy the delight of a restored relationship with God by His Spirit!

Guided prayer:
Almighty God, I'm grateful for showing me your love and the way to your heart by choosing to walk with me daily. Today, I pray earnestly for those who are still questioning your love for them, especially the lost. Help them by your Spirit and grace to hear your call and identify with your presence, and thereby embrace their salvation, in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
