I am introducing a new topic, namely, the eye. Below is the context of the Scripture it was culled from, and in this very article, I will give you an introductory aspect of the topic, which will serve as a preparatory insight into the main structural comprehension embedded in the successive parts of the topic. More below!

Reference: Matthew 6:22-23 New Living Translation (NIV)
"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!"
For an in-depth analytical exposition, coupled with my insightful simplified clarification, I have decided to separate the context of the above versified statement into three segmental statements, and they are as follows:
1. The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.
2. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.
3. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
Now watch this: In the first versified segment, the Lord Jesus said, "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light..."
The eye being the lamp of the body - has to do with such organ being a location in bodily or outward appearance; so this very versified segment has got nothing to do with the eye of "inward part" and "mind." Notice that it says, "lamp of the body" not "lamp of the soul" or "lamp of the spirit." Markedly, it is a simplified expressiveness that points to the vividness of outward visual organ or eye sight.
Beloved, the physical eye is a light-sensitive organ used in the versified segment to mainly identify and grant access to the light that permeates the body, before it even influences the mind and inward being. Got it! To that effect, it is rightly considered as the lamp of the body, yet it is not a controlling system in the body, but rather an "access point".
The controlling organ in the body is the tongue, which is stated in the book of James numbered as James 3:2 and noted below:
"...But if you can control your tongue, you are mature and able to control your whole body."
So Jesus was not talking about the tongue which can control the body when used rightly. His discussion was pointing the eye, which means - access point. Simply put, the eye is a main front entrance or physical entry point of external light engulfing the human body; it is the external entrance also signalling the transmission of several messages closely associated with light that floods our inward location.
What actually led to Jesus' emphasis on the issue of eye? Prior to our reference Scripture, He made mention of "Lasting Treasure", with an illustrative inference in which he noted that "where one's treasure is, there their heart will also be" (Matthew 6:21 NET). So therefore, the Lord wanted us to bear in mind that the eye of the body is a great tool which is equally instrumental in granting access to the objects of light, leading to more specific and personalized treasures.
To instantiate this phenomenal verity, let us assume that you want to visit the Bahamas because you love the Island, meaning that it is a treasured Island in your heart. Before it became a treasure in your heart, the eye in your body must have made useful research about the Island, and viewed the key facts about the country. In other words, so many things must have gotten your interest, based on the "online" evidence and knowledgeable observations you've seen, leaving you with a convincing conclusion about the Island, which has now settled as a treasure in your heart.
Hence, we can rightly agree that the eye of the body played an important role in helping you to understand both the implicit and explicit information regarding the island, thereby acting as an enlightened guess derived from available clues. Are you with me? Stay tuned for part 2. Shalom!
Scripture Reading - Genesis 3:7; Psalm 121:1-2; Proverbs 4:25; Psalm 146:8.
Guided Prayer:
Thank you my Supreme Father in heaven, because you gave me a perfect eye, which is considered as an outward access point to light in my body system. Indeed, I'm forever grateful that my physical eye functions perfectly in granting me clear directions in my physical dealings, viable vividness for my social interactions, and social media essentials that accurately transmit clear-cut valuable information to all parts of my body, in the natural world, in Jesus' name, Amen.
