LIVING IN UNITY; WALKING IN HARMONY
FRIDAY 25 MARCH 2022
God delights in the blessed unity of His people. In other words, participating in majestic association of the saints is a perfect picture of God's will for all Christians and it is a fitting place to represent God and enjoy His goodness.
Reference: Psalm 133:1 New Living Translation (NLT) How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!
This Scripture is talking about the harmony of God's people, although this was specifically making reference to the pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem in David's time. In the next verses, King David continued, "For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron's head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe. Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting" (Psalm 133:2-3).
The unity of God's people and their perfect harmony are likened to two important pictures described: Firstly, the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron's head which ran down the edge of His garment or robe. Secondly, it is as refreshing as the dew from Mount of Hermon which descends on the mountains of Zion.
The first picture: What comes to mind regarding the unity of God's people being likened to anointing oil poured on Aaron's head is Psalm 23:5 which reads, ...You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings" (NLT). When the oil of unity is released upon God's children, the resultant effect is that their cup will surely overflow with blessings. As Christians, when we walk in unity with fellow Christians and share fellowship with one another, our lives are permeated with the anointing of the Holy Spirit, such that we are saturated with the presence of God, which commands His blessings upon us.
The manifest presence of God in our lives as a result of this unity, crowns all who awaken to this grace with glory. When God's people live and function together in unity, one of the results of many interactions occurring simultaneously within such association is an ability to intuitively grasp and grow together in the things of the Spirit.
As Christians, by steadily pouring ourselves out for each other in acts of love, we become alert at overlooking our differences and quick at mending fences. Paul wrote, "I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling" (Ephesians 4:1-4 NKJV).
The second picture is: Walking in harmony with fellow Christians is like the dew of Hermon, pouring down on the mountains of Zion. According to study, this dew is a soft mist that comes from the Mediterranean during a hot summer, when the heat is at its peak, due to severe or intense sunshine. The dew cools off the severity of the heat and the irritation and inflammation associated with it, like a cold glass of water. Likewise, there is wisdom in harmony. According to David, it is associated with refreshment. In fact, it is the best drink that satisfies our godly thirst and brings refreshment upon our hearts and in our spirit. This is exactly why "walking in harmony" is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion.
Finally, David says, "And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting" Psalm 16:11 reminds us about the uniqueness of divine presence, "In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore" (NKJV). Beloved, the bestowment of supreme blessings is discharged and dispensed at the right hand of God in heaven and it's the work of the Spirit to distribute this blessing to the saints as we continually enjoy the enablement of walking in unity and perfect harmony. Shalom!
Scripture Reading - 2 Corinthians 13:11; Philippians 2:2; Romans 12:16; Ephesians 4:13.
Exuberant Declaration: I thank God for the Spirit of truth who brings me into glorious and profitable union with fellow Christians. He has provided me with this special revelation by which I'm anointed with fresh oil of joy and my garment is fragrant with the variety of pronounced blessings. I affirm that walking in unity and functioning in harmony with God's people are the emblem of peace and prosperity. By practicalizing my spiritual understanding of this truth, I always experience the greatness of God's favour and all-round blessings in Christ. Glory to God!
