GUARD THE PRECIOUS TRUTH WITH GREATEST CARE
THURSDAY 26 AUGUST 2021
Through the power of the Holy Spirit who lives in us, we must carefully guard the precious truth which has been entrusted to us.
Reference: 2 Timothy 1:14 Amplified Bible (AMP) "Guard [with greatest care] and keep unchanged, the treasure [that precious truth] which has been entrusted to you [that is, the good news about salvation through personal faith in Christ Jesus], through [the help of] the Holy Spirit who dwells in us."
The Good news is a precious truth and a priceless treasure which has been entrusted to us. It is the good deposit that has been planted in us as Christians. The Bible gave us a touching narrative in form of brief parable, which is the hidden treasure. And it says, "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field" (Matthew 13:44 NIV). Here, the hidden treasure is the precious truth which has been entrusted to us. Having this treasure grants us joy and peace above all the treasures of this life, and so the man who bought the whole field was willing to sacrifice all in order to obtain the greatest treasure.
With the value of the Kingdom of heaven in mind, Paul summoned Timothy to guard its truth and realities with greatest care and keep it unchanged. God did not just give us the best gift, which is Christ, He also invested in us His very life and gave us the Word, full of grace and truth so we can always exercise our faith in Him and continue strong and steady in Christ. It's not enough to allow the Word to be rooted in our hearts, we must guard and preserve it with greatest care.
When God establishes us in the truth about Christ and His Kingdom, He anoints us and places His seal on us by putting His Spirit in our hearts as a pledge of what is to come (see 2 Corinthians 1:22). What is the significance of a seal? The purpose is to authenticate an item or package and to prevent interference with that package. By applying a seal, we preserve the content of the goods and the container itself. Likewise, in order to guard us with greatest care, God set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
Beloved, the Holy Spirit is not dwelling in us for nothing and Paul reminds us that He is our greatest help. Through His help, this precious truth entrusted to us can be fortified and preserved beyond modification and error, bearing in mind that we've been entrusted with much more truth in this present world. The Holy Spirit is not just the deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until we acquire the possession of them all, He is also there to help us sustain and preserve the eternal truth of the Kingdom, which is the good news about our faith in Christ Jesus. Shalom!
