GOD'S TRUTH AND HOLINESS

FRIDAY 16 JUNE 2023

The entire chapter of the book of Psalm which contains the versified reference below is based on God's reign. The chapter is just about five verses, yet it reveals the details of His appearance on the throne which is everlasting. God is clothed with majesty on high, and His testimonies are very sure. More below!

Reference: Psalm 93:5 English Standard Version (ESV) "Your decrees are very trustworthy; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore."

There are two sides to the gospel truth embedded in today's referenced Scripture. The first is "Your decrees are very trustworthy" and the second, "holiness befits your house, O LORD, forevermore."

The first, "God's decrees are very trustworthy" simply means that His eternal truths are remarkable, sure and a reliable source of change, transformation and good success - when you know them. Remember that Jesus said to those Jews who had believed Him, "If you continue in My word, then you are truly My disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32 NASB). When you begin to know and apply the truth of God's Word, you'll grasp the very depths of the reliable or trustworthy character of the Word. The Word does not fail; the knowledge is pure and it sanctifies. To that effect, John 17:17 reads, "Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth" (NLT).

When the Word becomes sovereign in our lives, it implants God's will in our minds and spirits, such that it becomes the guiding principle for our Christian conduct, as we put it into practice. So there must be a life-long, steadfast decision to bring the tremendous truths to bear in our lives until all contrary practice is brought to nothing - under its influence (2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT). In any aspect of human life, the mighty working power of the Word of God is a sufficient and firm foundation on which we must build our hope and faith, so as to position us to receive all the promised blessings of the glorious gospel fulfilled in Christ Jesus. Therefore, to claim that God's decrees are very trustworthy means that His truths possess no falsehood.

Let's consider the second phrase, "Holiness befits your house, O LORD, forevermore." Although some translations used "temple" which is still God's house, the hidden truth here expresses holiness as the nature of His reign and dominion - as King of kings. In other words, God's reign is a holy government forever and ever. It is not a corrupt government. And it grants us superior identity that puts the confidence of an overcomer in our steps, which is one of the distinguishing qualities that separate it from any world government.

Daniel 4:17 (AMP) says, "This sentence is by the decree of the angelic watchers, And the decision is a command of the holy ones, So that the living may know [without any doubt] That the Most High [God] rules over the kingdom of mankind, And He bestows it on whomever He desires And sets over it the humblest and lowliest of men." When you consider the verdict in this very verse, you'll notice that the decision was announced by angelic messengers; the holy ones declared the verdict, which reveals the holy nature of God's sovereignty or reign from above. Shalom!

Scripture Reading - Joshua 21:45; Psalm 19:7; Isaiah 8:20; Psalm 119:60.

Guided Prayer: I thank you Lord for the majesty, power, stability and timelessness of your eternal Kingdom and glory. You hold the attribute of immutability; holiness is in harmony and conformity with your reign. Through constant application of your Word, I experience great and desired transformation, according to the influence of your glory in my life, in Jesus' Name, Amen!
