FULFILLING GOD'S PLAN AND PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE
24 MAY 2021
God always has a plan for His children, and according to Jeremiah 29:11, it is a good plan. However, His plan starts with our salvation because He is a God of order. This implies that everyone outside Christ is living a self-planned life. So you can only walk in God's plan when you come to Christ by faith and acknowledge Him as your Lord and Saviour. Then, as you grow in faith, its absolutely important to discover and walk in His definite plan for you.
Reference: Psalm 138:8 New Living Translation (NLT)
"The LORD will work out his plans for my life - for your faithful love, O LORD, endures forever."
The Psalmist made a decision by faith to follow God's plan for his life and live with a desire to trust God and rest in His faithfulness. It is God's will that we rest in His love and learn to live with confidence in His plan. And the truth is, no one else but God has the plan and vision for your life. He has the blueprint drawn up to fit the dream and vision He has for you so you can fulfil your glorious destiny.
Sometimes there comes the influence or persuasion to follow and meet up with certain standard that the world holds for you. However, its only through His plan and purpose for your life that you can achieve what He wants for you and experience true fulfilment in life. Therefore following God's plan for your life requires you to allow Him to guide your steps and trust Him in all your ways. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) reads, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
When you truly believe that God will work out His plan for your life, you will develop an unquenchable desire and interest to study what is written in the Bible and follow the way He calls you to live. Practising the Word in today's modern age comes with a lot of challenges, but God always qualifies His own through His Word, so that when He accomplishes His plan and purpose through them, He will be glorified in the process. This also means that attending church services on Sundays and hearing the pastor's sermon are not enough, you must find time each day to study and meditate on God's Word to align your life with His plan.
Get to know God first, because it's difficult to trust someone you don’t know, let alone following their plan for you. The Scripture contains a treasure of knowledge about God's character, and the Holy Spirit uses it to reveal Him and His plan to us. Therefore, finding a quiet time each day to read the Word will give you a better understanding of God's definite plan and purpose for your life, and position you to live the life He desires for you. Just as building a house requires the builders and labourers to work according to the architectural plan specifically designed for the building, so is God's Word in building our lives for His glory.
Philippians 1:6 says, "Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Indeed, this verse is an empowering truth. Beloved, no matter who you are or where you are in life, it makes no difference because in Christ, God has passionately committed Himself to fulfilling His plan and purpose in your life. In your confidence, hold forth the Word of life and give yourself consistently to prayer so you can stand strong in His grace and co-operate with Him. That way, He will surely complete what He has begun. Shalom!
