I am introducing a new topic, namely, "You won before the battle." A true born again Christian should never be ignorant of what the Lord Jesus has done and accomplished for us on the cross of Calvary, which entails absolute victory over the devil and the world. Jesus Himself said to the saints, "Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33 NIV). We must blatantly agree with this testimony, and live it out by faith. More below!
Reference: 1 John 4:4 New Living Translation (NLT)
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
I like the way Johannine epistle, according to Evangelist John, passed the information about our superiority in Christ Jesus. Just imagine: You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. Beloved, the spirit that dwells in the people of the world is an inferior spirit, compared to us, the new creatures, the precious superiors, because we are in inextricable union with Christ.
You must wear this understanding: We are frightfully superior to the devil! In other words, do not let the enemy put away his enmity. He must remain in opposition with the Spirit that lives in you. So, then, let us, as born again Christians, think of this victory frequently, and refuse to diminish the thought transmission, because we have the Spirit of Christ, and He has no compeer.
Why must we maintain such thought pattern? The fullness of our victorious supply is constant because the power of the Holy Spirit has already possessed our inward being. However, the power to walk in Christ's victory increases with the consciousness of its application, and diminishes with the neglect.
Now why is the "in-depth analysis" of this topic vitally important? It helps the born again Christian to understand who they really are, what they have been granted in the Lord, and how they must keep applying the accorded advantages to their Christian walk in response to any situation. Therefore, I will expound the versified statement in accordance with the specified sequence below, for our insightful enlightenment:
1. But you belong to God, my dear children.
2. You have already won a victory over those people,
3. Because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.
Whenever it comes to exercising our victory in Christ, the Holy Spirit has various strategies that are set in motion, such as momentary trials, challenging circumstances, seeming externality of visible conflict, unexpected development revealing negative reactions, and more. Sometimes, they come in layers, in order to trigger us to manifest the victory heavenward.
Additionally, in any given situation, we can perceptibly identify new opportunities or series of events that may arise to animate us to action the Word within the realm of our varied activities, so that Christ's victory will continually come to light in our lives. Stay tuned for part 2. Shalom!
I have a high opinion of Christ's victory, and I do not believe it in vain; thus I keep exercising my faith in the gospel of His finished work. This truth is bigly confirmed in my life as I consciously act on the Word, in any given situation. Hallelujah!
