WE ARE GOD'S OWN POSSESSION

Who do you belong to? This is a very important question to ask yourself while on earth. It's either you belong to God or you are of the devil. On one occasion, Jesus said to the Jews, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on my own; God sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil..." (John 8:42-44 NIV). This implies that although they were religious and formed modes of religion with religious opinions and practices, they were not functioning in accordance with the designs of the Spirit of God, and so, their actions did not honour the name and work of Jesus Christ, but rather the devil.

Reference: 2 Corinthians 1:22 New Living Translation (NLT) "and He has identified us as His own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first instalment that guarantees everything He has promised us."

If you are born again, you are God's very possession, and God has given you the Holy Spirit in order to stand firm in Christ. So the Holy Spirit is the glorious symbol of the loving manifestation and presence of God the Father - in our lives. In a nutshell, God anointed us, set His seal of ownership on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come, because we have become His own precious possession.

Therefore, as God's own children, we must cultivate a fixed consciousness of sonship and continually function with the awareness of a joyful divine atmosphere because we have been unionised as the children from the greatest family, which is in heaven.

To instantiate this verity, Hebrews 12:22-24 says, "But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel" (ESV). Got it?

Beloved, the heavenly realms is the atmosphere and position of those who have been saved by God the Father through the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Apostle Paul acknowledged this by saying, "And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:6 NIV). So because of our union with Christ, God has positioned us in heavenly realms in Him.

To that effect, Romans 8:9 says, "You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ" (NIV). Why did Paul mention the realm of the Spirit? This is because God has identified us as His own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts to upgrade our spirits, or the spirits of His children in general.

In other words, by recreating our human Spirit, God made us alive in Christ and placed the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first instalment that guarantees everything He has promised us. Shalom!
