THE GLORY OF THE LORD - PART 2

SATURDAY 29 JULY 2023

Have you ever been lost in His glory, which is so worthy of adoration? How often do you make time to meditate on it, like the Psalmist? Oh how precious is the glory of God! Even the heavens declare it, as the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

Reference: Isaiah 60:2 New Living Translation (NLT) Darkness as black as night covers all the nations of the earth, but the glory of the LORD rises and appears over you.

Today, I'm going to focus on the glory of God's creation, which is an important knowledge to start with, before we go deeper into the vastness of His glory. Moreover I can't discuss the glory of God's creation without mentioning the Lord Jesus Christ, who upholds, maintains and carries the entire creation along to its predetermined goal (the physical and spiritual universe) by His powerful word.

To that effect, Hebrews 1:3 noted that Jesus radiates God's own glory. The (CEV) translation says, "God's Son has all the brightness of God's own glory and is like Him in every way. By his own mighty word, he holds the universe together..." In other words, Jesus is the wellspring of God's glory. He is the abundant source of it. Zero wonder John 1:14 reads, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." Did you notice the expression - "We have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father..." The glory He radiates is the glory of His Father, because He is from the Father, which implies that the glory is only One of their kind. Got it? The glory is not from different sources or rather, put it this way, no various provenance or roots of glory.

The entire Scripture is permeated from beginning to end with the message of God's glory. It is replete with the descriptions of the glorious image of His majesty. For instance, Psalm 97:1-6 revealed a part of the knowledge in this manner:

"The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice! Let the farthest coastlands be glad. Dark clouds surround Him. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire spreads ahead of Him and burns up all His foes. His lightning flashes out across the world. The earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax before the Lord, before the Lord of all the earth. The heavens proclaim His righteousness; every nation sees His glory." (NLT).

When you look at your surroundings, you'll definitely see some of the visible features of the natural world, such as spectacular views of mountain scenery, attractive designs of colourful trees and shrubs, a clear sky (as you look heavenward during the day), and so on. All of this points to the visible greatness of the invisible glory of God (Isaiah 6:3).

At least the world at large cannot deny the plain evidence of this truth quite visible to them, which denotes the general knowledge of God's glory, because God Himself made it plain to all. Romans 1:20 (NLT) reads, "For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God." To that effect, the Psalmist sang a song of His majesty in Psalm 145: 4-7 saying,

"One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts. I will meditate on the glorious splendour of Your majesty. And on Your wondrous works. Men shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, And I will declare Your greatness. They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness, And shall sing of Your righteousness" (NKJV).

Beloved, God Himself is the King of glory, according to Psalm 24:7-8. And it reads, "Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle." Stay tuned for intensified knowledge of God's glory in their various category. Shalom!
