Reference: Deuteronomy 10:15 New King James Version (NKJV)
"The LORD delighted only in your fathers, to love them; and He chose their descendants after them, you above all peoples, as it is this day."
Indeed the LORD delighted only in our fathers, to love them. And I can begin with a quick exploration or assessment that gives us a detailed analysis of Jesus' genealogy:
"This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:
Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David, David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah's wife, Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa...."
The list continued and got to Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and to Mary the mother of Jesus, called the Messiah. Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah (Read Matthew 1:1-17 NIV).
I believe that there is a list that has a chronological arrangement or historical records which establish the dates of their earthly birth. Moreover, His genealogical profile helps to recommend our true fathers in ancient lineage of faith, and this factor is crucial for analysing how our Messianic identity emerged over time, plus it's a means of recognising and admitting that the LORD truly delighted in our fathers, to love them, as well as chose their descendants after them, above all peoples, in a way that actually deems tailored to us in Christ.
Although God delighted in our ancient fathers, regardless of the fact that they didn't have a numerical predominance in their day, the effects of His boundless love for our fathers had modes of development carried out in a 'real-world' setting. Some of them were caught up in the force of God's love and were bound to God by ties of personal dependence and mutual rights. And in the fullness of time, God demonstrated this love on a whole new level, which is by means of unconditional exertion of Christ's love for humanity, through His atoning sacrifice, made of an exceptionally substantial self-less character, as evidenced in His death on the cross.
Now when you surrender your life to Christ Jesus, you automatically receive the Spirit of Christ, but you still need the Spirit to start working in you by acknowledging, embracing and activating His infilling and governing influence, and from that point onward, you can identify with the personalities listed in the genealogy of Jesus, as well as acknowledge them as your spiritual forefathers, because God, in His good pleasure and demonstrated love, chose that lineage as His most prized possession, out of all peoples, and above all others. With a childlike attitude towards the influence of the Holy Spirit, you'll always experience a clear-sighted delight and Fatherhood of God - in Christ Jesus. Why so?
Matthews 12:18 reads: "Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on Him, and He will proclaim justice to the nations" (NIV).
What is the significant implication of the above versified statement spoken by prophet Isaiah? When you receive the Lord Jesus Christ, the one God loves, and in whom He delights, you will receive the same Spirit on Him, which positions you to enjoy the loving kindliness and possibilities of God's delight in Him. Stay tuned for part 3. Shalom!
