PRUDENTIAL PROFICIENCY BY CHRISTOLOGY - PART 6

Updated: Jun 23

SATURDAY 21 JUNE 2025

David demonstrated an exquisite kind of prudential frequency while resolving issues pertaining his earthly life and in fulfilling his God-given purpose. More below!

Reference: 1st Samuel 16:18 New King James Version (NKJV)

"Then one of the servants answered and said, "Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD is with him."

Today's segmentary statement for my clarified insightful enlightenment is:

"Prudent in speech" (Prudential Speechification).

This implies that the most obvious and profound demonstration of those truths which David articulated and delivered, came with a sense of complete critical thinking based on prudential reasonings. The King James Bible translation informed that he was prudent in matters, not just in speech.

Like other virtues that empower mankind to experience rewarding results and uncover many interesting realities while dealing wisely in their environment, David had long held a special fascination for prudential responsiveness. His habit of deciding correctly, the accurate actions to take in response to his situational analyses was always on point, which implies that the testimonial witness from Saul's servant regarding David's inherent aptitude and abilities was very veracious and certain, and more so, he exhibited interpersonal sensitivity or relational skills, directly linked to environmental issues and societal matters.

To instantiate this astounding verity ranging from his environmental encounters in the wilderness to society-based issues, Psalm 78:70-72 reads:

"He chose his servant David, calling him from the sheep pens. He took David from tending the ewes and lambs and made him the shepherd of Jacob’s descendants—God’s own people, Israel. He cared for them with a true heart and led them with skillful hands" (NLT).

Without exercising prudence, Davidic heroism would not have amounted to great success. Any significant victory he actualised was fashioned from a carefully-inspired depth of forethought. To instantiate this verity, when David's wives and family members were captured and taken captive by the Amalekites, he handled the situation with utmost prudence, leading to great strides towards the recovery of all that the Amalekites had taken captive. To my surprise, he was shockingly distressed (1st Samuel 30:6 NIV), but the good news is that it didn't stop him from entertaining a careful consideration of what would be the necessary action to be precisely taken in such situation. To that effect, 1st Samuel 30:7-8 reads:

"And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, "Bring me the ephod." So Abiathar brought the ephod to David. And David inquired of the Lord, "Shall I pursue after this band? Shall I overtake them?" He answered him, "Pursue, for you shall surely overtake and shall surely rescue" (ESV).

What does the above versified passage implicate? Every prudent man acts with knowledge (Proverbs 13:16 ESV). First and foremost, David exerted a sound judgment by inquiring from the Lord, which was his monumental habitual approach, and hence, with well considered decision, he recovered all that the Amalekites had taken, and rescued his two wives, such that nothing was missing, whether small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything that had been taken. By prudential sensibility and receptivity, David brought back all! (1st Samuel 30:18-20 ESV). Stay tuned for part 7. Shalom!
