PERFECT GIFTS VIA CONTINUATIONISM - PART 3

Updated: Sep 2

MONDAY 01 SEPTEMBER 2025

Perfect gifts are God-inspired. They are extremely useful, because the Spirit of God is the originator. They don't bring disfavour, hindrance, disappointment, affliction, incapability, disadvantage, dissension, calamity, misadventure or mischance. They solve spiritual and physical problems because the gifts are of Spirit and life. Simply put, their verbal inspiration triggers solutional dictations that result in restoration of overall well-being, regardless of the nature of human problem or challenge. More below!

Reference: 1st Corinthians 12:31 King James Version (KJV)

"But covet earnestly the best gifts:"

If you are told to earnestly covet the best gifts, then you need the gifts of the Spirit indeed. The gifts are profitable for all purposes of the Christian life, and they are of use to all and sundry, because they create solutions that benefit everyone, and are suitable for every case in human likeness and condition. To that effect, Pauline epistolary expression numbered as 1st Corinthians 12:7 reads:

"But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all" (NKJV).

Beloved, spiritual gifts are the gifts that the Spirit manifests in and through the saints. Those who would learn the things of God, and be assured of gaining the spiritual gifts received by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, must know the Holy Spirit. Therefore, in accordance with 1st Corinthians 12:8-10 (NKJV) and Romans 12:6-8 (NCV), the notable varieties of spiritual gifts are listed as follows:

1. The word of wisdom.

2. Gifts of Service.

3. The word of knowledge.

4. Offering voice of encouragement.

5. Gifts of Faith.

6. Generous giving.

7. Gifts of healings.

8. Gifts of leadership.

9. The working of miracles.

10. Generous helps.

11. Gifts of prophecy.

12. Showing mercy cheerfully.

13. Discerning of spirits.

14. Speaking different kinds of tongues.

15. The interpretation of tongues.

These manifestations of the Spirit can only be possible through us, meaning that He needs us to manifest them, else the manifestations are not possible on earth. It is true that one and the same Spirit works all these gifts, distributing to each saint individually as He wills; moreover, the saints are not mere subjective recipients of spiritual gifts; we are as well, active co-operators. So the Holy Spirit bestows His gifts as He wills, and we receive them by demonstrating an intense desire for them, which in turn, empowers us not to labour in vain in our Christian lives, or receive "the grace of God in vain."

By listing those gifts in their totality, we have learnt the things of the Spirit, haven't we? In doing so, we best eradicate or combat the error of "cessationism" concept by promoting and expounding a solid knowledge of spiritual gifts through the word of truth; and the effectual way we have achieved this aim, was to reveal and pin them to our spiritual understanding through Biblical-based teaching with an accuracy of the versified references. Stay tuned for part 4. Shalom!
