OPEN DOORS - PART 3

WEDNESDAY 28 FEBRUARY 2024

Reference: Revelation 3:8 New Living Translation (NLT)

"I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me."

The second segment in the above Scripture is:

And I have opened a door for you that no one can close.

In other words, someone can close a door, until Jesus Christ Himself has opened a door with an assurance that no one can close it. So an open door which is not manifestly accompanied by Christ's authorisation can be closed. But when it is the Lord Jesus Christ, He welcomes your entrance to the door securely, and you'll begin to see the results of a proof that He opened it, which are full of goodness.

Isaiah 22:22 talks about someone who was granted the key to David's royal house, and it reads, "I will give him the key to the house of David - the highest position in the royal court. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them" (NLT). However, this is not the Lord Jesus Christ.

To understand the context of the above Scriptural prophesy attributed to Prophet Isaiah, the Lord Almighty revealed the full knowledge below in his hearing from verse 15 of Isaiah 22:

Isaiah was sent by God to go to a selfish official, Shebna, the prime minister and caretaker of the royal household - with this message;

Shebna, what gives you the right to have a tomb carved out of rock in this burial place of royalty? None of your relatives are buried here. You may be powerful, but the Lord is about to snatch you up and throw you away because you're a disgrace to those you serve. So the Lord is going to take away your job! He will give your official robes and your authority to His servant Eliakim son of Hilkiah. When that day comes, I will summon My faithful servant; Eliakim the son of Hilkiah to take over and assume your authority and office. I will clothe him in your royal robes and fasten your sash securely around him. Eliakim will be like a father to the people of Jerusalem and to the royal family of Judah. The Lord will put him in charge of the key that belongs to King David's family. No one will be able to unlock what he locks, and no one will be able to lock what he unlocks. The Lord will make him as firm in his position as a tent peg hammered in the ground, and Eliakim will bring honour to his family. On him will hang all the riches, all the honour, of his family's future. His children and relatives will be supported by him, like pans hanging from a peg on the wall. On the appointed day, the peg that was attached so securely to that house will become weak, break off, and fall to the ground. And everything that had been hung on it will fall down and shatter. This is what the Lord All-Powerful has promised (Isaiah 22:15-25).

Some of us have assumed or believed that Isaiah 22:22 in particular, speaks about the Lord Jesus, but with the clarity of the context of the above versified passage, be persuaded - on good grounds that it has got nothing to do with the Lord, but a person known as Shebna, the caretaker of David's sustained royal palace at that point in time. God was about to make a change because Shebna had failed in his administration. He and the people of God living in and around Jerusalem and the Judeans assumed that they could handle things by their understanding, engineering skills and their weapons, without turning to God, since after all, God had pledged to King David that his dynasty would continue. Having ignored God who established the city and made them a nation in the first place, God took action to make a change, thereby replacing Shebna with Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who took over and assumed the authority and office of David's royal house.

So Isaiah 22:22 refers to Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, as the one God placed on his shoulder the key to the house of David, saying:

"I will grant him the key to David's royal house and no one can shut what he opens; no one can open what he shuts."

Beloved, I believe that we now entertain the right and favourable thoughts about Isaiah 22:22 cogitatively. Appositely, Jesus has been introduced over time, as the holy and true Lord, who holds the key of David. What He opens no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open. So in a manner suitable for the purpose of our salvation, after the Lord Jesus has come in human flesh, as author of salvation in accordance with God's faithfulness, He has opened a door for you that no one can close. Receive the grace to walk into it, and stay tuned for part 4. Shalom!
