Reference: Proverbs 20:12 New International Version (NIV)
"Ears that hear and eyes that see— the LORD has made them both."
In today's article, I will shed light on the in depth analysis of the "know how" the disciples gained as their way [out of destructive peril], the truth [of the whole matter], and the path of life - issued to them by Salvation.
Firstly, it is greatly important to acknowledge that they woke up the right person, beholding Him face to face, for salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (See Acts 4:12).
Come to think of it, what if "Thomas" was sleeping like the Lord Jesus, and they woke him up to do something about the situation, instead of the Lord? The spirit of fear, doubt and unbelief would have joined themselves together as formidable forces and escalated, leading to ancient newspapers publishing and announcing "obituary" notices for the famous disciples. Notably, in a dire situation, observing the right approach, as well as approaching the right person (s), matters.
Secondly, Salvation showed them the way out of the troubling situation, thereby rescuing them from terminal danger. To instantiate this verity, the Bible reads:
'The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!" Jesus responded, "Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!" Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm' (Matthew 8:25-26 NLT).
The "WAY" out was rooted in His ability to rebuke the strange winds and waves, which suddenly led to a great calm.
What is "TRUTH" in the matter? The disciples demonstrated a little faith by being so afraid. They had no hope at all. With an alarming increase in violent storm, their otic and optic perceptions were compressed into "the perishing moment" such that they entertained so much fear in their human experience. Hence, Jesus said to them, "Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!" which is indicative of His ability to make a sound judgement regarding their actions in that situation.
Now watch this: Putting the situation into evaluative perspective, by examining their fear-inspired actions and the truth revealed about their actions, the disciples were supposed to take the truth of the matter, later known to them, and considerably insert it in their present and future discernments - based on that experience and lesson learned, so they could build their faith muscles and become extremely nonchalant the next time such an incident would occur, thereby rebuking the brutal winds and waves with outright confidence in speech and actions.
How was Salvation revealed as "LIFE" in the boat? When the spirit of death attacked through the fierce winds and waves, Jesus showed the difference between the law of Spirit of life, and the law of sin and death. The former brought life and a calm peace in the boat again, having belittled and banished the spirit of death, and so, the disciples remained connected to Him afterwards, which is the life, or path of life that held and sustained the substance that kept them alive as physical beings, positioning them to keep breathing in and out. So the "life" that carries our spiritual and physical life along, beyond our human capacity is in last Adam.
Now how does a born again Christian remain aptly receptive to the way, the truth and the life - in any troubling situation?
As for the WAY, the indwelling Holy Spirit is highly instrumental in providing accurate guidance and assurance of the right way. To that effect, the book of Isaiah reads, "Your ears will hear a word behind you, 'This is the way, walk in it,' whenever you turn to the right or to the left" (Isaiah 30:21 AMP).
So we are to live in accordance with the law of the Spirit of life by functioning pari passu or on equal footing with His governing influence, enabling our ears to improve its perceptive ability and be observant of His clarity of direction.
As for the TRUTH, the Lord Jesus said,
"You have eyes—can't you see? You have ears—can't you hear?' Don't you remember anything at all?" (Mark 8:18 NLT).
The grace advantage tunes our spiritual ears and eyes to perceive when the Holy Spirit is revealing deeper knowledge about the matter, and this truth can be revealed in familiar ways such as dreams, trances, or visual perceptions, plus inner voice with full conviction or persuasion, word of knowledge, and a driving force such as special inspiration backed up by Supreme Deity through whom we are filled with the right counsels, and the Holy Spirit will continually bring them to your remembrance (See also John 16:13 AMP).
Failing to particularly hear, see, observe and perceive the truth of the matter, and even retain or remember what is shown as the truth, means that we are missing the light of the knowledge of revelatory insight concerning the issue, and so we cannot precisely secure the mind of God in the background of that very situation, just like the disciples obtained the truth that they demonstrated a little faith in the boat during the raging storm.
As for my meticulous or in depth treatise regarding the revelation of LIFE through God's Salvation, stay tuned for the final part of this wonderful topic. Shalom!
