One of the important truths that is noteworthy in our referenced Scripture below is the special disclosure that came from a divine source, with a specific purpose, which is to deliver salvation to mankind. More below!
Reference: 1 Peter 1:10-12 New International Version (NIV)
"Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things."
In the above versified reference, Peter shows us two things that the prophets of the old did after prophesying about the grace that was to come:
1. With all diligence, they inquired of the Spirit of God about the outpouring of this grace.
2. Having been told about the suffering of the Messiah and the honour that would follow it, they also inquired of the Lord to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing.
In a nutshell, the first inquiry was about the salvation that the grace of God would bring to mankind. The second inquiry had to do with the fullness of time, when the Word would become flesh and the circumstances associated with His coming. Got it?
What lessons can we learn from their inquiries? It's not enough to prophesy or hear from God, its equally important to go deeper in gaining accurate insight into the unfamiliar areas of the message we've received from the Lord. Write and examine the message you've received ethically and in detail, and pray for accurate understanding of the full interpretation, basically, in order to decode and explain it in an explicit manner.
When you pray further for specific factors pertaining or surrounding the message, and then, analyse the details of the revealed truth, it becomes clearer. Then, you can function with confidence which the Holy Spirit grants you concerning the prophesy. You now have an assurance of certainty that comes with the message, because it has thoroughly settled in your mind and spirit, that it will emerge as you've been informed by the Spirit of truth. Got it? Stay tuned for part 5. Shalom!
