GOD HAS FREED US - PART 1

THURSDAY 01 JUNE 2023

"God has freed us" is a most pre-eminent and significant phrase! And this refers to the born again Christians. In this wonderful topic, we are going to discover more about this freedom and the divine entities who participated in making it available to us. More below!

Reference: Colossians 1:13-14 New Century Version (NCV) "God has freed us from the power of darkness, and He brought us into the kingdom of His dear Son. The Son paid for our sins, and in Him we have forgiveness."

No man or angels freed us from the power of darkness but God alone. Through the perfection of His nature, particularly by His lovingkindness, holiness and justice, He qualified us to become partakers in the inheritance of the saints in light, by delivering us from the power of darkness. It is indeed a glorious freedom which entails absolution from bondage of sinful nature, guilt and punishment for sin.

When we were still unbelievers, we were tied and bound with the chain of sins in the domain of darkness. And this expression is understood to be a state where man is being held as slave to sin or prisoner in chains by the power of darkness. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8 NIV). God rescued us from the control of darkness and set us free through Christ, who died for us and forgave our sins. This freedom is the Greek word, "eleutheria" which, in the context of this topic, denotes liberty, specifically: a state of freedom from yoke of sin and dominion of darkness. Christ released us from that state by paying for our sins, such that we are no longer slaves to sin.

To that effect, Paul the apostle says, "We know this: whatever we used to be with our old sinful ways has been nailed to His cross. So our entire record of sin has been canceled, and we no longer have to bow down to sin's power" (Romans 6:6 The Voice). Moreover, God didn't just free us from the bondage of sin and the power of darkness through the death (atoning sacrifice) of Christ, He gave us additional privilege, and that is, He bestowed a further honour on us, by bringing us into the Kingdom of His dear Son, Jesus Christ, a powerful and glorious condition. Got it?

Stay tuned for the successive parts of this topic, which contain an in-depth analysis of God's wisdom in relation to initiating our freedom from the power of darkness. Shalom!
