DEEPENING YOUR SPIRITUAL UNDERSTANDING - PART 3

MONDAY 20 OCTOBER 2025

This very topic suggests a "functional ability" from a position of advantage and blessing, meaning that deepening your spiritual understanding and discernment, in relation to studying the Word - is of profitable importance.

It reveals your personalised interwoven relationship with the enlivening and uplifting edification that comes from the Holy Scriptures, which involves "breathing in" the life of God, as well as welcoming a constant access to divine experiences so as to live it in reality, as distinct from an idealized or fictional world. More below!

Reference: Isaiah 42:20-21 GOD'S WORD® Translation (GW)

"Seeing many things, but you do not observe; Opening the ears, but He does not hear. The LORD is pleased because He does what is right. He praises the greatness of His teachings and makes them glorious."

To expound the above Scriptural reference in an elucidating manner, I have divided it into four segmental differentiations, which are as follows:

1. Seeing many things, but you do not observe;

2. Opening the ears, but He does not hear.

3. The LORD is pleased because He does what is right.

4. He praises the greatness of His teachings and makes them glorious.

In today's article, I'm going to consider an insightful expository response to the first segmentary statement of our versified reference which is "Seeing many things, but you do not observe."

There are twofold truth in the first segmentary statement. The first sub-segmentary detail or subdivision of the first segment is "Seeing many things" and the second is "but you do not observe."

Why would someone see many things as they read the Bible, and yet, they do not observe or pay apt attention to what they've seen or read? This has to do with spiritual vapidity which implies being dull in studying the Word, and also, it can be imagined as having a boring study which will definitely result in "mentally empty" study, because you have a lifeless conversation with the written Word and see it as any other book, and even sometimes, it could get to the point of acknowledging the great Scriptural details as uninteresting ideas.

In the contextualised viewpoint, in relation to this topic, seeing many things in the Scripture means to study, identify, recognize and examine a Scriptural text or passage with your optical attention, and when the study is done in relation to the action of divinely-inspired light of the Spirit, your eyesight and mind will be deluged with wondrous realities, such that you gain their perceptible impression and conviction, or fully become aware of their truthfulness. To that effect, the Psalmist said, "Open my eyes [to spiritual truth] so that I may behold Wonderful things from Your law" (Psalm 119:18 AMP).

There are main principles of gaining access to the critical analyses of any Scriptural language by the influence of the Spirit, which is denotative of eyes that see the light of wonderful realities. The principles are patently available to your sight or optical attention when the Spirit of truth is bigly involved to convincingly inform your mind and spirit with the hidden treasures in the Word. These five principles are known as the truth's reliability, accuracy, validity, relevance, and its true reflection of God's mind. The five principles are more so, the elements of wondrous realities that can be seen, beheld, recognised, explored and examined while studying any Scriptural text or passage.

So the first insightful part isn't the observatory or "applicability" intelligence; the first insightful enlightenment is seeing many things in the Scripture you have studied, plus the awe-inspiring ability to carefully describe and assimilate their meaningful explication before you can consider the practical application of what you have seen. Stay tuned for part 4. Shalom!
