Reference: Psalm 98:1-2 New Living Translation (NLT)

"Sing a new song to the Lord, for He has done wonderful deeds. His right hand has won a mighty victory; His holy arm has shown His saving power! The Lord has announced His victory and has revealed His righteousness to every nation!"

The next versified sub-segmental statement which is our main focus in today's article is:

"And has revealed His righteousness to every nation!"

Did you notice that what we have in the sub-segmental statement is God's revelation of righteousness? It is a righteousness that makes us know that He alone is God, and that this is His perfect work, not any man's righteousness, based on work or obligation, or call it - self righteousness. So God demonstrated His foreknowledge of revealing the certainty of His righteousness to every nation or creature, by implicitly affirming the trustworthiness of His ultimate plan for salvation - in our referenced Scripture.

Obviously, there are four kinds of righteousness, namely performative righteousness, comparative righteousness, imputed righteousness, and practical righteousness. The first two are classified as self-righteousness, but the righteousness that God has revealed in us is imputed righteousness. To instantiate this verity, Pauline epistolary expression numbered as Romans 4:3-5 reads:

Because as the Scriptures say, "Abraham believed God and trusted in His promises, so God counted it to his favour as righteousness." Now, when you work a job, do your wages come as a gift or as compensation for your work? It is most certainly not a gift—you are only paid what you have earned. So for the person who does not work, but instead trusts in the One who makes the ungodly right, his faith is counted for him as righteousness (The Voice).

Beloved, God imputes His righteousness, which is by the faith of Christ; thus, the revealed righteousness is wholly of God through faith in Christ Jesus. Apostle Paul identified the righteousness in the New King James Version of Philippians 3:9, which reads:

"And be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith."

When a man is born again, the person and image of Christ he has received imputes the righteousness of God in him, which suggests a spiritual context where God legally declares him righteous. Now the person is justified by faith, which implies that he has been made right, innocent, immaculate, pure and guiltless in God's presence, and is acknowledged as the accepted beloved of God. To that effect, Romans 5:1 reads, "Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us" (NLT).

Beloved, God's righteousness is a perfect righteousness that comes with heartfelt devotion, and a longing communication with God which is pleasing and acceptable to Him. So, by having His righteousness, there is nothing whatsoever that can inhibit your entrance into heaven, except you verbally denounce your salvation and turn away from God.

In a nutshell, God's righteousness is revealed by receiving the person of Christ (2nd Corinthians 5:17); our redemption is by His blood (Ephesians 1:7), our pardon or forgiveness, by His blood (Colossians 1:14), our reconciliation to God is by Him (2nd Corinthians 5:18), and atonement by His sacrifice (Hebrews 9:13-14). By this same imputed righteousness, we receive eternal life through Christ (1st John 5:11-13), and we automatically become heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17).

Indeed, God's revealed righteousness is divinely initiated and is profitably demonstrated by the finished work of Christ. Another vitally important question: Why did God reveal His righteousness to the nations of the world?

Answer: Romans 3:23-27 (NET)

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. But they are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. God publicly displayed Him at His death as the mercy seat accessible through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because God in His forbearance had passed over the sins previously committed. This was also to demonstrate His righteousness in the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who lives because of Jesus' faithfulness. Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded! By what principle? Of works? No, but by the principle of faith!"

I believe that the above versified passage is self-explanatory, and highly important, we must bear in mind that the agency by which the righteousness of God was revealed and accomplished in us, as well as demonstrated in this world was that of Christ. Stay tuned for part 8. Shalom!
