There is such a thing as living the life of the Spirit, which is the outward manifestation of spiritual change based on our imperishable, inner new nature. Living this spiritual life is an honest conformance to the extent of our knowledge of God and of His will, day by day. More below!
Reference: Romans 8:6 King James Version (KJV)"For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace."
As born again Christians, we have been born into God's kingdom, and today's Scripture reveals that there is no middle ground or double-mindedness, in terms of Kingdom focus. It's either we are carnally minded or we are spiritually minded.
When a Christian is carnally minded, it implies he functions like the natural man and embraces the thoughts of the ordinary mind and so, he can never do anything more than the ordinary mind suggests because he is carnally-inspired.
On the other hand, a Christian who is spiritually minded is always vibrant in the Lord. His heart is focused on the Word and dedicated to one purpose - pleasing God. Spiritual truths shape his life and conversations, as he functions under the influence of the Spirit of God. So the understanding of "being spiritually minded" is a convincing description of vivid consciousness of an ever-growing and prosperous Christian life, and its the key to activating and living the life of the Spirit.
When Paul says in Romans 8:5 (ESV) that, "Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit", it means that a spiritually minded Christian purposefully sets his mind on spiritual realities. He is constantly focused on the Lord, and as a result, he always makes quick decision to act on God's Word, plus he is readily unwilling to act on anything contrary to the Word. So he always makes conscious choices that please God, and his zeal or fervent love for the things of the Spirit is always seen in his actions.
To be spiritually minded is to be full of the Spirit. And to have the fullness of the Spirit, it must first come with a strong desire to walk in step with Him. Beloved, you'll never be full of the Spirit unless you have developed an insatiable hunger for His fullness, and when you begin to experience His fullness, you'll notice that you easily live a Christ-centred life. So as Christians, we cannot have a balance between spirituality and carnality because both can never be in manifestation at the same time. Shalom!
