ACCEPTABLE TO GOD - PART 10

FRIDAY 18 OCTOBER 2024

Reference: Acts 10:34-35 New Living Translation (NLT)

'So Peter opened his mouth and said: "Truly I understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to Him."'

Below is the strategic details of the Gospel message delivered by Peter to Cornelius and his people, which is worthy of notice:

Acts 10: 36-43 (AMP)

36 You know the message which He sent to the sons of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all— (Foundation of eternal peace).

37 you know the things that have taken place throughout Judea, starting in Galilee after the baptism preached by John— (Facts of occurrences).

38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with great power; and He went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with Him (Demonstration of power and good works).

39 We are [personally] eyewitnesses of everything that He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem [in particular]. They also put Him to death by hanging Him on a cross; (Living witnesses of his manifested glory and sacrificial death).

40 God raised Him [to life] on the third day and caused Him to be plainly seen, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen and designated beforehand by God, that is, to us who ate and drank together with Him after He rose from the dead (Special predestined witnesses to Christ's resurrection).

42 He commanded us to preach to the people [both Jew and Gentile], and to solemnly testify that He is the One who has been appointed and ordained by God as Judge of the living and the dead (Great Commission and the supremacy of Christ).

43 All the prophets testify about Him, that through His name everyone who believes in Him [whoever trusts in and relies on Him, accepting Him as Saviour and Messiah] receives forgiveness of sins (The resultant effect of believing in Christ as Saviour and Lord).

Apostle Paul called this Petrine style of preaching - the mystery of faith (or godliness). The related summary of Pauline epistolary version of expression reads, "Without question, this is the great mystery of our faith: Christ was revealed in a human body and vindicated (justified) by the Spirit. He was seen by angels and announced to the nations. He was believed in throughout the world and taken to heaven in glory" (1 Timothy 3:16 NLT). So the main purpose of Peter's visit was to give them the light of the knowledge of God's glory in the face of Jesus Christ.

Now watch this: In Peter's message to Cornelius and to his relatives and close friends who were present in the gathering, we can understand that Cornelius already knew the message that was sent to the sons of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all, meaning that Jesus' walk and ministry on earth was a well known story, and seemingly, in all his solicitous manifestation, Cornelius was widely known by all the Jewish people, who spoke well of him. But more importantly, in the newly formed and established association - is the possibility of being part of the Kingdom of God, which was the opportunity knocking at the door of Cornelius and His household.

In accordance with the universal salvation now made available in Christ Jesus, they needed to receive the Holy Spirit, on account of the truthfulness of God's approval in anointing Jesus of Nazareth with Holy Spirit and with great power.

Galatians 3:14 reads, "He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit" (NIV). The proof and certainty of divine power in terms of living in the practical truth of our redemption in Christ Jesus is having the gift of Holy Spirit.

Hence, while Peter was still delivering the message the prophets testified about Christ, that through His name everyone whoever believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins, something unusual to the Gentiles took place - the Holy Spirit fell on all of them as they were listening to the message - confirming God's acceptance of Gentiles. Stay tuned for final part of this topic. Shalom!

Scripture Reading - Acts 1:8; Acts 2:4; Ephesians 5:18-21; Acts 13:52.

Exuberant Declaration:

The capacity for the right kind of awe and reverence to God relies on the influences and infillings of the Holy Spirit, a partnership orientation that always turns things around in my favour. Hallelujah!
