WE HAVE OBTAINED AN INHERITANCE IN CHRIST

TUESDAY 5 OCTOBER 2021

I have always noted that God made a massive investment in Christ just for the sake of the saints. He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfilment. And now we are in part of the times. What a plan and revelatory mystery of God's will!

Reference: Ephesians 1:11 English Standard Version (ESV) "In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will."

Once I see an inheritance in the Bible like it is stated in the above Scripture, what comes to my mind is that God loves His people so much that He loaded us with fastidious benefits. All over the Scriptures, you can easily locate compendium of divine inheritance. Relevantly, every trace or benefit of this inheritance is found and obtained in Christ, not outside Christ. Why? It's because we have been predestined according to divine purpose. As long as our inheritance is of divine origin and nature, it reveals an important aspect of God's purpose and glorious plan for the saints. No wonder Colossians 1:12 says, "Giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light" (NIV).

Beloved, the latter part of our referenced Scripture says, "God's purpose works all things according to the counsel of His will." So God's purpose is rooted in the strategy of His will. The revelation of the purpose for the saints is a mystery that delivers our inheritance. It generally reveals the ultimate goal of God's plan for the new creation and also the assurance and permanence of His love. This is why Ephesians 1:9 says, "Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself." Simply put, God has a purpose and this purpose works all things after the counsel of His will. Then in Christ, we were assigned an inheritance, having been foreordained according to, or included in the purpose. "Foreordained" here means that God chose us in advance, and now makes everything work out for us according to His purpose, so we can enjoy the benefits of abundant living.

In today's verse, all I can see is that apostle Paul is a thoughtful communicator who uses His epistolary expression to spur us to invest our attention and focus on God's purpose and plan. He is showing us how God enlisted us in His righteous plan, cause and counsel because of Christ. The irrevocable and unlimited tie between us and Christ produced for us an inheritance and by God working it out according to His will, we can study and gaze into the Word which contains the full details of the inheritance and then apply the principles therein, to possess our inheritance. Shalom!

Scripture Reading - Psalm 16:5-6; Colossians 1:12; Ephesians 1:14-18; Galatians 3:29.

Guided Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for your blessings made known to me by revealing the mystery and counsel of your sovereign will. I'm grateful that I've been made a partaker of the glorious inheritance bequeathed to me in Christ Jesus and the source of my selection is your predestination. Therefore, I'm purposefully led by the Holy Spirit to harvest all my inheritance, thereby walking in abundance, health, victory and success and manifesting your glory all the days of my life, in Jesus' Name, Amen!
