THE UNIFYING POWER OF GODHEAD

TUESDAY 28 MAY 2024

Godhead refers to the divinity existing in three persons - the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If you are in Christ, you are in association with the Godhead because Johannine literature numbered as 1st John 1:3 says, "And our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ" (NIV). This was Evangelist John's testimony, having mingled with Christ while He was on earth. John attested to the belief embedded in Pauline truth that - in Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily (see Colossians 2:9 NKJV). John proclaimed what they had seen and heard, so that we also may know and have fellowship with the Godhead. Therefore, today we are going to look at the benefits and elements of our union and association with the Godhead.

Reference: 2 Corinthians 13:14 King James Version (KJV)

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.'

Paul prayed for these important three things to remain with the Corinthian church: The grace of our Lord Jesus, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit. He offered such a prayer of specific blessing from each of the three entities that make up the Godhead.

This is also a familiar verse often used as a benediction in church services, but looking at the benefits, you'll agree with me that it is more than just a benediction. It communicates volume about the power of our inextricable unification with trinity, namely the Godhead.

Firstly, Paul speaks of the grace of our Lord Jesus available to us. John 1:16 (ESV) says, 'From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace.' This means that abundant grace in Christ is inexhaustible. As a result of Christ's sacrifice on the cross for sin, we have received God's grace in its fullness. Now that Christ Jesus is our Lord, we can partake of abundance of grace.

Secondly, Paul speaks of the love of God. He prays for the love of God to dwell with the Corinthians. God's love never fails! His love is unconditional and never gives up on anyone. That's the love that moved Him to send His only begotten Son, Christ Jesus, to earth to make His grace and forgiveness of sin available to mankind. John 3:16 (NASB) says, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." Beloved, the love of the God is unanalysable, prodigious and unfathomable. It is the only love that saves the souls of men from perishing eternally.

Next, Paul speaks of the communion of the Holy Spirit. He prayed for the communion of the Spirit to be with them. Every person who comes to faith in Christ receives God's Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:21-22). The Greek phrase Paul uses translates as "the fellowship of the Holy Spirit." At first, the Corinthians knew nothing about such fellowship, as the church was pervasive with disunion. In 1st Corinthians 1:12-13 (NIV), Paul even mentioned about the case, by saying, "What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas"; still another, "I follow Christ."" Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul? Indeed, it was a church divided over their various preferred leaders, which is an activity far from the unifying grace that comes from Holy Spirit.

The deepest work of the Holy Spirit is much more than guiding us aright and distributing spiritual gifts. It is the Spirit that makes it possible for Christians to communicate with the Father and to be in thriving relationship with Him. Zero wonder John the Evangelist mentioned that our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ (1 John 1 :3 NIV). Notice that in the versified statement, the Holy Spirit seems to be omitted among the participants in the fellowship, Why? Its because the word "fellowship" already expresses the personality of the Holy Spirit, as we know that effective fellowship can never be possible without the Holy Spirit. He hosts every delightful fellowship in which we participate with the Father and His Son. He also seeks to establish fellowship among God's people by His unifying power, while we wait to be with God permanently in the glory of eternity (see Romans 8:23–27).

The inexhaustible measure of the grace of our Lord Jesus, the boundless love of God and the enriching fellowship of the Holy Spirit in your life can be sustained by your consciousness and willingness to walk in step with the Holy Spirit, which affords the empirical realm of unity and hearty concord with the Godhead. Therefore, subscribe to the intelligence of the Holy Spirit, follow Him bumper to bumper, and listen to His voice because He will harmonize you with the practicable effects of association with Supreme Deity. Indeed it is a fellowship that truly reveals God's grace and love as being fully functional and active in our lives. Shalom.

Scripture Reading - John 16:13; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 1:9; Philippians 2:1-2.

Guided Prayer:

Dear Lord, I thank you for the indivisible union I have and enjoy with you, powered by the Holy Spirit. Through this union, you're more than able to carry out your purpose, thereby doing extraordinary things through me, working exceedingly in my life, both to do and to will of your good pleasure. By my active fellowship with the Godhead, I'm guided properly and fostered daily in the path of fulfilling my glorious destiny in Christ, in Jesus' Name, Amen!
