THE FATHER OF COMPASSION AND COMFORT - PART 5

FRIDAY 01 DECEMBER 2023

Christ's compassion is sure and firm, absolute and unconditional, full of satisfaction and peace, and its entirely, a function of the powerful and effectual grace of God.

Reference 2 Corinthians 1:3 New International Version (NIV) "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort."

The Bible says that Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When He saw the crowds, He had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd (Matthew 9:35-36 NLT). What does this mean to you? For me, it means that in Christ, we have the ideal, flawless example of compassion from multifaceted precepts. For instance, His teachings that liberated human souls and His healing miracles, were part of the full proofs of His compassion.

In Mark 1:40-42, the Bible says, "Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, "If You are willing, You can make me clean." Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to Him, "I am willing; be cleansed." As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed" (NKJV).

Another Scripture in Luke 7:12-15 reads, "And when Jesus came near the gate of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother; and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." Then He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And He said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." So he who was dead sat up and began to speak. And He presented him to his mother" (NKJV). The keywords in both versified situations are "Christ's compassion."

The glorious Gospel is useful and beneficial to the souls of men because Christ's compassion, which He ultimately demonstrated on the cross, is a prophecy of victory based on eternal hope for mankind. In so many ways, His compassion does not allow the enemy to come against us successfully in our walk with God - by any fashion.

So when Paul says, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort", it implies that it is from the vantage point of practical gratitude that we find solace and hope, and remain sure of victory, thereby sustaining a mental tranquillity. In other words, when your lifestyle is characterized by continual praise, divine compassion and comfort will become a regular part of your pleasant experiences. Stay tuned for part 6. Shalom!
