THE WOES OF HUMAN WISDOM
THURSDAY 11 AUGUST 2022
Human wisdom is minimized in our lives as we feed on Christ through constant study of the Word and by experiencing the dictates day by day as we practise it in our lives. As we bond daily with the wisdom from above which is Christ in us, the efficacy of this wisdom will increase and grow within us, and suddenly, we'll notice that we are conditioned to find ourselves expressing more and more of God in our daily lives here on earth.
Reference: Isaiah 5:21 New International Version (NIV) "Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight."
Being wise in one's own eyes undermines the effectiveness of spiritual progress. You can never be distressed or disappointed when you encounter any situation and approach them by finding out what God says concerning them. Even when you can't seem to fix any problem, God still expects you to submit to His leading and meditate on His wisdom, until excessive light breaks forth in your path with the accurate solution you require. Beloved, the wisdom of God is the splendour of His regalia; don't ever take it for granted.
Proverbs 3:5-6 reads, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths" (ESV). Of course, God wants all of your heart, not part of it. When you become wise in your own eyes, it means that you lean on your own understanding, which can be erroneous and fallacious in diverse ways. This is why our referenced Scripture says, "Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight." Why woe? It's because the Bible says that the wisdom of man amounts to nothing before God, meaning that it can lead them to disappointment and disadvantage. No wonder Proverbs 26:12 (NIV) reads, "Do you see a person wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for them." Simply put, how terrible it will be for those who are wise in their own opinion, and clever in their own reckoning!
The highest manifestation of divine wisdom and authority is Christ. The Bible says, "God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself...He became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30). Indeed, there is no wisdom like the wisdom of our loving Lord, Christ Jesus, a wisdom based on righteousness, holiness and a glorious redemption. This wisdom is wielded in meekness and gentleness and nothing on earth can match its manifestation because it's completely divine. No height of wisdom towers so high as the wisdom, namely Christ, who came from above and reigns so supremely because He utterly gave Himself for us. No wonder James 3:17 reads, "But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere" (NIV). These descriptions are entirely Christ's attributes, which is another day's topic.
Once you reject the counsel of God in the Scripture concerning any issue or circumstance, it means that your trust in the Lord is insecure and so, you are leaning on your own understanding. But when you embrace the counsel of God in the Word, you subscribe to divine wisdom. Now watch this: How do we activate or establish this wisdom in our lives? It is first and foremost, by speaking it forth. The Bible says, "Yet when I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world or to the rulers of this world, who are soon forgotten" (1 Corinthians 2:6 NLT). So this wisdom is first a revealed spiritual truth, and second, a natural sound, and then third, a quickening or performing sound. In other words, it is written Word (Logos); when spoken, it becomes a Rhema, and then, it brings the course of its dictates into effect, which is - thorough establishment of the utterance. Shalom!
Scripture Reading - Proverbs 2:6; 1 Corinthians 3:18; Proverbs 16:6; Ephesians 5:15-16; James 1:5.
Guided Prayer: Father in heaven, your word teaches that fools find no pleasure in divine understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. But today, you have made me wise in heart and have granted me your wisdom and power through the Word to function beyond human wisdom and understanding. Therefore, I'm grateful to have braced myself with your wisdom from above, which is the fontal source of all the special blessings I experience in my life, in Jesus' Name, Amen!
