ROYAL HEADSHIP - PART 1

WEDNESDAY 26 JUNE 2024

My royal headship has to do with the noble realities of my headship in Christ. The indwelling presence and influence of the Holy Spirit is of unspeakable advantage to the saints. One of His glorious influence in our lives is that He positions us to function as the head, by assuring us of the righteousness of Christ which is our new nature, and of His supernatural ability at work in us. Without a clear discovery of the realities of our headship in Christ, we may never understand the value of our salvation. This is why I am introducing this topic. More below!

Reference: Ephesians 2:6-7 The Message (MSG)

"Then He picked us up and set us down in highest heaven in company with Jesus, our Messiah. Now God has us where He wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus."

Our royal headship! How did it start? God showed Himself to be merciful, just and supreme in subduing His great enemy and defeating Him by sending the Lord Jesus to die for our sins.

Ephesians 2:1-3 reads, "Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God's anger, just like everyone else" (NLT).

What changed everything? The mercy of God which animated us from spiritual death and made us alive with Christ!

Indeed, all of us were in the same boat of eternal condemnation. However, it's a wonder that God didn't lose His temper and do away with the whole lot of us. Instead, immense in mercy and with an incredible love, He embraced us. He took our sin-dead lives and made us alive in Christ. He did all this on His own, with no help from us! Then He picked us up and set us down in highest heaven in company with Jesus, our Messiah.

Now God has us where He wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all His idea, and all His work. All we do is trust Him enough to let Him do it. It's God's gift from start to finish! We don't play the major role. If we did, we'd probably go around bragging that we'd done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join Him in the work He does, the good work He has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing (MSG).

Beloved, isn't God wonderful? He remembered us in this manner, not because we were more qualified or immeasurably better than sinners in the world but because of His amazing grace and great mercy, which elicited His choice to deliver us from the domain of darkness into His marvellous light. This means that it's only by His grace that we've been saved.

Have you been so grateful and thoughtful to ask yourself this question: What if I wasn't chosen? This is why you must extend the same grace to the lost souls until God's mercy is deeply felt by a convicted sinner, who already knows that he or she is guilty. By extending God's grace to them, they learn that God is just, and overcome the fear that they are already condemned, and then tremble in apprehension of the approaching eternal damnation, thereby turning to God. Stay tuned for part 2. Shalom!

Guided Prayer:

Thank you my heavenly Father for ushering me into the awesome realm of your boundless grace and love. I lay hold of the full privileges of my salvation in Christ by functioning as a royal priest with "headship" mentality. My enduring faith, royal headship and unwavering confidence in Christ are based on the solid truths of the finished work and your invitation to come boldly. It is mind-boggling to believe that you chose me among men to serve you and to enjoy all you have prepared for me in Christ. Unto you be the glory and honour forever and ever in Jesus' Name, Amen.
