David said, "I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living" (Psalm 27:13 NKJV). In other words, if he didn't continue to believe that he would see His goodness, he would've lost hope or missed the timing. Then the next verse says, "Be brave and courageous, yes wait patiently for the Lord" (verse 14). How do you become brave and courageous when you are particularly expectant concerning the promise of God you are yet to see?
Firstly, let's consider and understand what it means to be brave and courageous in the context of believing and expecting anything from God. It is to be strengthened and invigorated with the power of God's Word. When you give yourself to God's Word by uttering the relevant promises, the powers of your mind will be expanded to visualise them, your courage becomes bolder as you gain clearer views of truth concerning the promises, and you'll have more faith in God. Reference: 1st Chronicles 17:28-29 New International Version (NIV)
"You, Lord, are God! You have promised these good things to your servant. Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Lord, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever."
The first segment of the above referenced Scripture reads, "You, Lord, are God! You have promised these good things to your servant..." David was a man who was never discouraged by his previous circumstances, meaning that his spirit did not sink under their weight; he did not quit on God because of them, but went on cheerfully, until God displayed His exquisite wonder.
Now watch this: By examining this Scripture properly, I want you to notice what was not said, or that which was not completely transparent below.
I would have despaired had I not believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living (Psalm 27:13 AMP).
The NIV translation rendered it in this manner: " I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord... And the NET: "Where would I be if I did not believe I would experience the Lord's favour in the land of the living?"
The versified statement has an unspoken or implicit connotation, and that is, he believed that God would come through for him and he declared His goodness to himself. To instantiate this verity, He said in the beginning of the chapter, "The Lord is my light and my salvation...The Lord is the stronghold of my life", which implies that he avoided making negative confessions in the midst of adversity.
Beloved, before you give up on that wonderful expectation, wait and pay attention to the encouraging wordings of Davidic inspired Psalmody. All hope is not lost because, ultimately God is your light and salvation. As you dwell in the beauty of His presence and keep declaring His promises over your life, you'll be lifted and the goodness of God will have it's way in your life. To that effect, Job 22:29 reads, "You will pronounce something to be, and He will make it so; light will break out across all of your paths. God will humble, but you say, "Raise them up." He will save the downcast"(VOICE). So you must keep the Word in your mouth as an ongoing vocal sound.
Another sure way of solidifying your confident assurance in the promises of God is by refusing to be anxious or worry about anything. Pauline epistolary expression in accordance with Philippians 4:6-7, reads, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (NIV).
Beloved, it's so easy to think your challenges and trials are too big and significant, unless you acknowledge that God cares for you and pray with such attitude of mind as you remind Him of your expectations in your prayer times, instead of yielding or giving in to worry or anxiety attacks. To that effect, Petrine epistolary dicta reads, 'Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you" (1st Peter 5:7 NIV). Stay tuned for part 4. Shalom!
