Reference: Colossians 2:6-7 New International Version (NIV)
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."
In today's article, I'm joyfully inspired to expound the latter part of the versified segmentary statement below:
"Rooted and built up in Him"
"To be built up in Christ" is an infinitive phrase that grants an incentive to the impactful exudation of Christ-like outward deeds and the outflowing of godliness in our course of actions.
It is the building structure of your Christian life and godly attitude shaped by the character of the Spirit - which happens on a firm foundation, namely last Adam.
The New King James Version notes of Pauline epistolary expression: "For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13 NKJV). "To will" here implies a function of the "root system" while "to do" is indicative of a "building up" functionality.
Beloved, we are being built up by "doing" what the Word dictates. To that effect, last Adam noted in Matthew 7:24-25 that:
"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock" (NIV). Got it?
One of the "noteworthy" ways last Adam's effect builds us up is by empowering us as part of His witnessing system, which is a theological term broadly known as Evangelism. Participating spiritedly in spreading or preaching of the message of the glorious gospel to others is not optional for a saint; it is our utmost responsibility to share the "good news" about Jesus Christ in our various world - with genuine fervency.
To that effect, the New King James Version of Proverbs 11:30 reads, "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise." Beloved, the unreserved obligation is not simply an ideal Christian theological notion; its an applied or practical involvement that makes us ethically or morally wise, because it has a far-reaching "life-changing" indicator (See also Act 26:18 NKJV).
Another pivotal point by which we get thoroughly built up is by being present and participating in the fellowship of the saints in a Bible-based and Spirit-led Christian gathering. In such an environment, the presence of God is actively and efficiently made manifest to instill godly wisdom and to spiritually train the saints with behavioural disposition that mirrors the last Adam's exemplum, which is far from observing outward religious rituals. So the fellowship of the saints creates an empowering influence that reinforces and induces our empirical knowledge of the Word outside the confinement or four walls of a church meeting or Christian gathering.
When you are cheerily functional in the above-mentioned formative or "building up" Christian routines, rooted in divinely-inspired influences, you'll become conspicuously known for living a life of active devotion, reverence and peity towards God, which is made manifest via practical, righteous living. Simply put, you'll continually experience the resultant effect of being built up by the Word of grace as you wholly get involved in such rewarding Christian activities.
However, the "all-encompassing" enablement that stems from being "built up" flows directly from the "root system" where a Christ-centered life has been effectively ingrained in a saint. Stay tuned for part 8. Shalom!
