God is the fountain or source from which all light flows, and there are various blessings that emanate from His reference as our sun and shield. More below!

Reference: Psalm 84:11 English Standard Version (ESV) "For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly."
Still on the first segment: For the LORD God is a sun and shield. All true light proceeds from God, and there is no other source of heavenly lights, as well as the light of truth except God.
To instantiate this verity, Genesis 1:3 reads, "And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day" (NIV).
The sun, as a heavenly light, is the source of daylight, and the moon appears at night (see Genesis 1:16 NIV). And it's amazing that both celestial bodies produce their lights differently. The sun shines during the daytime without any mixture of darkness, such that we can discover and enjoy every blessing in the light, and the moon serves as light to mark the night time.
Moreover, I also mentioned in part one, the manifold ways in which God manifests in our lives as the source of divine light, such that we are enabled to walk in His light, and to see what is true in the light. In addition, 1 John 1:7 reads, "But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin" (NLT). When God is our sun, it means that we are living in His light, and as we gather together before Him, everything is seen in the light, and automatically, the blood of Jesus attends to us, as a result of abundance of mercy and loving-kindness that proceeds from God.
What about God being our shield? The Psalmist said, "The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night" (Psalm 121:6 NIV). In other words, He will shield you from all harm in the presence of both lights. More so, there is more to His shield than meets the eye. A mystery of divine wisdom and knowledge is hidden in His shield. Hence, you'll have to unveil the secrets to discover the hidden treasures that lie hidden in a shield, namely Christ. The Bible says, "In him (Christ) lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Colossians 2:3 NLT).
To that effect, Paul's prayer or goal is that we might be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that we might have the full riches of complete understanding, that empowers us to understand God's mystery namely, Christ, which shields all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge regarding the counsels and purposes of God. Got it? So it is of paramount importance that we get to know God our shield, which is Christ, and all the treasures that lie hidden in Him. This also includes His virtues, abundance, excellence, and all the glorious features of the blessed and endless spiritual life available in Him. Stay tuned for part 3. Shalom!
