BECOMING A CHRISTIAN MODEL - PART 2

TUESDAY 04 OCTOBER 2022

By making the true teachings of the Word of God our constant meditation and practice, we can make ourselves and our Christian faith, an example for others to follow or imitate. Let's find out more!

Reference: 1 Thessalonians 1:7-8 New International Version (NIV) "And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia. The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia - your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it."

The Thessalonian Christians became a model to many believers and their godly influence expanded beyond measure. Aside from this testimony, Paul the Apostle wrote a letter and addressed it to Titus in Crete. In chapter two of the book of Titus, he encouraged Titus to teach what is good and appropriate to sound doctrine and to keep doing good for the sake of the Gospel. To be specific, the Bible says in Titus 2:7-8, "And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching" (NIV). Paul is simply encouraging Titus to show himself as an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, earnest in their hearts. As applied to Titus, Pauline persuasion here undoubtedly signifies teaching the right doctrine of grace, living a pure and godly Christian life that leads to every fruitful result, as well as taking advantage of the sanctifying grace of the Spirit to live it successfully, so that the Christians under his tutulage can emulate him.

The same thought is expressed in the book of Hebrews, which reads, "Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith" (Hebrews 13:7 NIV). The picture here suggests having and sustaining a mental image of those who lead you in the things of the Spirit and emulating their godly lifestyle. Simply put, when you're under the guardianship of an experienced teacher or Kingdom mysteries expositor, put their teachings to work and imitate their faith walk. By opening your mind to the Word they preach or teach and applying the dictates to your yourself, you imitate them and it leaves a great impress of holiness in your lifestyle. In another way, don't just be a hearer; you must learn to engage more of the Word from their mouth to act in holiness and experience the right outcomes in your faith walk.

Why is it so important to become a model to Christians and other people in your world? This is because there are those whose Bible is your lifestyle. They read, observe and emulate your way of living because your godly lifestyle has become the unruffled calm and Christlike expression which they see and behold even from afar, and long to possess. This is the reason 1 Corinthians 8:9 tells us: "But be careful that this liberty of yours does not become a hindrance to the weak" (NET). What does this imply? It implies that it matters to God how you live your life. In fact He cares about how you use your freedom in Christ. Therefore, don't live carelessly in a way that leads a fellow believer still vulnerable to their old way of life to be thrown off track. Don't become a stumbling block to other Christians and the weak through your way of life.

As a born again Christian, always remember to give yourself completely to God because you now have a new life in Christ. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. Your lifestyle is to be seen as an instrument of righteousness to holiness; therefore it should never be made an instrument of careless behaviour. You should always bring an honour to the body of Christ because Jesus Christ lives in you and it will be such an honour to let your light so shine before men in a way that they see your good deeds and moral excellence, and [recognize and honour and] glorify your Father who is in heaven (see Matthew 5:16 AMP). A mindset, conscience and lifestyle shaped under the light of God's Word will always produce the beauty of godliness and yield tremendous good success according to God's will. Shalom!

Scripture Reading - 1 Corinthians 11:1; Philippians 3:17; Ephesians 5:1; 1 Peter 1:16; 3 John 1:11.

Exuberant Declaration: I acknowledge that I have been redeemed from deserved condemnation and hopeless lifestyle by the atoning sacrifice of Christ. I was bought with a price of unspeakable value; therefore, I live as a clean and worthy vessel fitted for my Master's use. By being united to Christ as one spirit, I carefully consider my life as wholly the Lord's. Day by day, I live to glorify God with my spirit, soul and body which belong to Him and to influence others in my world with Christ-minded way of life. Glory to God!
