A DAY LIKE A THOUSAND YEARS OR VISE VERSA

TUESDAY 07 SEPTEMBER 2021

This topic is universally relevant because it conveys the deep sense of hopeful prospect that despite daunting circumstances, and in the face of what men see as a wasted time or delay, God is still in control.

Reference: 2 Peter 3:8 New International Version (NIV) "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day."

There is a direct connection between a thousand years and a day in the sight of God, and thank God, this is a knowable ultimate reality for mankind. It is all God's initiative and our part is to seek the understanding. So what does the referenced Scripture mean? It means that God is not bound by time because He does not function in the time realm. Therefore, He doesn't helplessly observe or depend on days, months and years as humans see it, in order to accomplish any aspect of His purpose.

Another way of interpreting this Scripture to our human understanding is by considering a span of time during which God personally intervenes in the life of a person or in the history of a people or nation, directly or indirectly, to accomplish some specific purpose or His plan for such person, people or nation, regardless of how long a memorable situation has lingered. For instance, after a long period of time, God intervened in the case of Sarah's and Hannah's childlessness or infertility, resulting in the birth of two important chosen leaders - Isaac (a Patriach) and Samuel (a great Prophet).

Don't be too quick to compare yourself to others and wonder why something they already have has not come through for you. Sometimes, what seems like delay to us, as humans, has a plan and purpose only known to God. In other words, in the divine calendar, despite wasted time and years, God can restore what is shattered to the point that it looks like nothing was ever wasted because there's always a good plan for you in His perfect will (see Jeremiah 29:11). Of course, His plans for you are far bigger than you can basically imagine, and they always further His good will for your life. Therefore, no matter what the situation looks like, always remember that God has a purpose to show forth, which you may not fully understand now.

Beloved, what is that expectation that seems delayed? What is that very desire you are believing God for? Don't ever give up on God! As a faithful Christian, besides experiencing a challenging time, there will soon be a time of unspeakable joy when God intervenes, thereby fulfilling His promise that after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you (1 Peter 5:10 NASB). If you truly serve the true living God, nothing must move or shake you in life. Already, God has given you His Word and His Spirit to strengthen you on a daily basis, so you can overcome any negativity or force that comes against you. All you need is to trust Him and remain standing on Christ, the solid foundation.

The Bible says, "But You, O LORD, sit enthroned forever; Your renown endures to all generations. You will rise up and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show her favor - the appointed time has come" (see Psalm 102:12-13). Beloved, you are highly favoured of God right now. All that you require is the grace to function in this favour, which comes from the knowledge of Christ as the Author and Perfecter of your faith and as well, the Source of your salvation. Remember, God has called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus. Therefore rejoice always and abound in His grace and favour. Shalom!
