The Almighty God is extraordinary in generosity, and so He made our inheritance extravagant in luxury. This implies that God has been more than able to furnish us abundantly with all that is needful for the supply of all our necessities both spiritually, naturally and materially.
To start with, what is an inheritance? It is termed as "kléronomia" in Greek lexical Strong's Concordance, which denotes heritage. For instance, righteousness is the eternal heritage (or inheritance) of those who have received the messianic Kingdom of Christ. More below!
Reference: Galatians 3:18 New International Version (NIV)
"For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in His grace gave it to Abraham through a promise."
Our inheritance in the Lord does not depend on the law, it depends on God's promise to Abraham which has been fulfilled in Christ. And those promises made to Abraham were the vocal expression of good thoughts from God, and perfect expression of His mind. For instance, in the Abrahamic covenant, God promised an heir to Abraham (see Genesis 15:4-6). God promised that He would multiply his offspring as the stars in the sky (see Genesis 26:4). God promised land to Abraham, because the prosperity committed to Abraham's control or superintendence required large amounts of land (see Genesis 15:18-21). And many more!
Beloved, the concept of promised inheritance set forth in the Bible entails spiritual and eternal treasures, as well as earthly inheritance. Hence, we can admit that the promises wield all kinds of favour, which are able to impart to us - all the benefits that are needful for our spiritual and physical welfare. Got it? And this clearly shows us how munificent God is!
2nd Peter 1:3 reads, "By His divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know Him, the one who called us to Himself by means of His marvelous glory and excellence" (NLT). Everything is incredibly included in the promises, and more so, God has proven that we are worthy heirs - as a result of who we belong to - Christ. To that effect, Pauline epistolary expression reads, "And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise" (Galatians 3:29 ESV).
In addition, Petrine epistolary dictates in accordance with 2nd Peter 1:4 reads, "And because of His glory and excellence, He has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share His divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires" (NLT). If these promises enable us to share Divine nature with God, it means that the promises in the Word communicate Divine life to the souls of men. This is the reason its important to know that if you are in Christ, you are not common but a supreme god on earth.
By faith, we can boundlessly experience Abraham's blessing as we receive salvation that is in Christ and believe in Him, who is the sense of fulfilment of those promises that entail all the great and wondrous words spoken by God in the past. To instantiate this verity, Ephesians 1:13-14 reads, "And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of His glory" (NIV). Under the Aegis of the Holy Spirit, we have full access to our inheritance in Christ, having been included in Him as the seed of Abraham.
So we have the witness of the Spirit within us as the light of any inheritance we desire, as long as the Bible gave a descriptive name to the inheritance, and this witness is the evidence of our inward conviction that we can experience all the inheritance in our outward life. Stay tuned for part 3. Shalom!
