WALKING WORTHY OF YOUR CALLING
THURSDAY 8 JULY 2021
Following Christ's example as dearly loved children of God and walking in the ways of the Spirit, just as He guides, ensures that our behaviour is a credit to the position which God's purpose has given us.
Reference: Ephesians 4:1 The Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) "Therefore I, the prisoner united with the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called."
As born again Christians, we are suitable beneficiaries of God's calling. However, to walk worthy of our calling is to live a life that exhibits godly character, moral courage, personal integrity and mature behaviour. It's a life that exercises godliness and expresses gratitude to God for our salvation.
After getting saved, the born again Christian is designed to live a life under the influence of God's Spirit. The Holy Spirit indwells and enlightens the new creation in accordance with this new life in Christ, as he renews His mind. That means, the new creation bears the responsibility to transform his mindset and to walk in line with the realities of the new life which he has received. This is stated clearly in Romans 12:1-2 (NIV), which reads, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - which is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will."
We walk worthy of our calling and grow in Christ by offering our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, and by refusing to conform to the pattern of this world's system. As we yield to the Spirit of God, meditate and conform to His Word on a daily basis, we are infused with divine wisdom, which mirrors and expresses the mind of Christ. This wisdom is an inner treasuring of God's will and counsels above all things, which sets up or establishes the mind of Christ in us. Having the mind of Christ empowers the Christian with sharp-witted discernment in spiritual matters, which in turn, helps us to walk worthily, according to God's will.
As we walk worthy of our calling, we identify with Christ's purpose, thereby fulfilling the divine plan and our glorious destiny in Christ and it's something that all Christians have been called to do. Shalom!
Scripture Reading - Philippians 1:27; 1 Thessalonians 2:12; Colossians 1:10; 2 Thessalonians 1:11.
Exuberant Declaration: Christ, the true vine, is the original source of my life and fruitfulness. I'm quickened by His Spirit to lead a manner of life worthy of the gospel and I bear fruit as I remain in the vine perpetually. By conforming to the Word and approving what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God, I'm filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. Hallelujah!
