THE SUSTAINING POWER OF THE WORD
If you are a child of God, you are extremely blessed because you've been given the Word of God to hold everything about your life together so that nothing about you will fall apart. This is the benefit we have in Christ whose powerful Word holds all things together.
Reference: Hebrews 1:3 New International Version (NIV) "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."
Jesus is described as the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being. He sustains all the creation that He spoke into being by the strength and authority of His powerful Word, which means - by His Son. Who is Jesus? He is the Word that was made flesh.
John 1:14 (NIV) says, 'The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.' When He emanated from the Father, He became the Word made flesh. After He had provided purification for sins, he went back to heaven and sat down at the right hand of the Father in heaven. He is no longer the Word made flesh. The Word is now with us as the logos (written Word), but rhema (spoken Word) is an inspired logos birthed within our spirit. So we are designed in Christ to declare the written Word with our mouth. In other words, we are to use the logos and convert it to rhema in order to sustain everything in our lives and the world around us.
To sustain means to strengthen, support, nourish, feed, provide for, manage, and maintain. It is to hold together and keep from falling. It is likened to a foundation that bears, upholds, and supports superstructure or a couple of staples that holds the pages of a book together. The Word of God is a powerful sustainer. Isaiah 50:4 (ESV) says, 'The Lord GOD has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.' This is why you must practice speaking the Word. Proverbs 13:2 (NIV) says, 'From the fruit of his lips a man will enjoy good things.' The Word of God on your lips bears up the pillars of your life. It can preserve and support every area of your life, and also supply you with the necessaries of life. The Word of God from your lips can rule and govern your world, providentially order every good thing you desire and also dispose you of all negativities in your world.
The Word of God is supreme! The Bible says that it is quick and powerful...' (Hebrews 4:12 KJV). When a woman becomes pregnant, there is a quickening that causes her baby to move within her such that she will feel it. That quickening shows her baby is alive and is sustained. It is a sign of life. So when the Bible says the Word is quick, it means it is alive and it sustains. Then 'powerful' means that it is active and efficacious. It can sustain, activate and uphold your health, finance, relationship, marriage, endeavours and investments. Therefore practise using the Word to address all things about you, knowing that no matter what seems to fall apart, the Word is able to gather them together and also sustain your progress permanently.
