THE LORD IS MY INHERITANCE

Inheritance means portion, birthright and heritage, from biblical view. Inheritance is the Greek word, 'kleronomia' which means "a lot" or a properly inherited property. The related Greek verb 'kleronomeo' means "to inherit, receive or obtain by lot".

Reference: Psalm 16:5 New Living Translation (NLT) 'LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine.'

When you recognise that God is your portion, you will embrace the sense of being that you're refreshed and sustained by God alone. The Psalmist sees the sovereign Lord as His welfare manager. He also sees the Lord as His cup of blessing, which means, 'I have more than enough for my needs'. No wonder in Psalm 23:5, he specifically mentioned that his cup ran over, which denotes excessive provision. The Psalmist also sees the Lord as One that sustains all he has. Some translations used the phrase, 'You maintain my lot'.

In Christ, we have inheritance from God which we inherited by virtue of our joint heirship with Christ Jesus. Romans 8:17 (NIV) says, 'Now if we are children, then we are heirs- heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.' One characteristic of a son is that he is his father's heir. So it is with us, the sons of God. The Lord is our inheritance - an inheritance of glory which we share with Christ. All the riches of God's grace belong to us. So the Psalmist concluded that God Himself is our greatest gift; that's the reason he called Him 'my inheritance.' The same way, Christ is everything to those who have Him and trust in Him.

The Psalmist also acknowledged that the Lord guards all that belongs to him. He supports, sustains and secures his lot. This is so true. In Hebrews 1:3 (NASB), the Bible says this about Christ, 'And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power.' If you are in Christ, everything about your life is supported, sustained and secured by the Word of God's power. Your family, your health, your household members, your work, your business and all that concerns you. Like the Psalmist, have you acknowledged this truth? If not, you must learn to accept it and make it your conscious awareness.

Beloved, Christ is your portion, your inheritance, your light, your salvation, your deliverance, your refuge, your fortress and your promotion. He upholds everything you have by the Word of His power. This is why we are encouraged to declare the Word often concerning every area of our lives. By doing so, we possess our inheritance in Him and His Word sustains it. For instance: when you feel sick, and you declare God's Word concerning your health, sickness will give way and your divine healing will be established. Moreso, when you master the habit of declaring God's Word concerning your divine health, the Word will sustain your health consistently. That's how the Word upholds your inheritance in Christ, but just as the Psalmist, you must first learn to acknowledge the Lord as your inheritance, your cup of blessing and the One that guards and upholds all about your life.

Scripture Reading - Psalm 16:6; Psalm 142:5; Lamentations 3:24; Ephesians 1:18; Colossians 1:12.

Exuberant Declaration: The Lord is my source, my light and my salvation; my great provider and my portion in the land of the living. I live by the knowledge of these truths and they are functional and evident in the expressions of my daily life. I'm enlightened in my spirit to grasp deeper and higher revelation of who God is to me. Thus, everything about me and around me is sustained by the Word of His power as I declare so. Hallelujah!
