THE DEPTH OF GOD - PART 3
04 JUNE 2021
As God's own children, the Holy Spirit gives us understanding into mysteries that are concealed and are indiscoverable by any human research. God has many things to show us. Here "many things" means revelation knowledge. That's the reason Jesus said to the disciples, "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority." In other words, as He searches the deep things of God, He discloses what He hears. In the Bible, the Scriptures are made of inspired truths, but the depth of the texts and standard is revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.
Reference: 1 Corinthians 2:10 English Standard Version (ESV) "These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God."
Paul told us about the mystery of Christ made known to Him and it was by the revelation of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 3:3-4). That means Christ is a depth and the depth of God is absolute truth. Now, the main thing the Holy Spirit does is to testify about the truth (Christ). That's the reason He's known as the Spirit of truth. John 15:26 reads, "But I will send you the Advocate - the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me" (NLT). To testify here means, "To unveil with clarity, every known truth, unknown or secret information about the mystery called "Christ".
The Holy Spirit is the answer to Jesus' prayer on our behalf. In fact, He is a special gift from our heavenly Father in answer to Jesus' prayer. If Jesus didn't pray for the Holy Spirit to come to us, the Spirit of truth would not be at work in and through us today - on a consistent or permanent basis. We would still be subscribed to the Old covenant dispensation, whereby the Spirit of God would descend upon God's prophets, messengers or people occasionally. But thank God for Jesus. So here is the most important prayer Jesus made for the body of Christ: "And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever"(John 14:16 NIV). Not occasionally, but forever!
Beloved, the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives is a permanent gift. He is the greatest blessing that ever happened to a born again Christian. Jesus said concerning Him: "He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it isn't looking for Him and doesn't recognize Him. But you know Him, because He lives with you now and will be in you" (John 14:17 NLT). If the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth, was not introduced in this dispensation of grace, even the most vibrant Christian would be stranded and even walk by the spirit of error. This is because the sum total of the already revealed truth concerning Christ and God of all creation, was made possible by His person and office.
The Holy Spirit is the difference between God's saved and chosen people, and the people of a worldly spirit. He makes known to us, indisputable truth and then practically guides us into such truths with notable evidences, in order to establish God's character, His perfections and His glory in our lives beyond any doubt. It is the Holy Spirit that magnifies the grace of God in salvation. He helps us to discern and increase in the accurate knowledge of God. In fact, He unveils mystery or depth of revelation knowledge profitable to the saints, such that nothing escapes our knowledge base, except the body of Christ is not yet ready to bear it.
Jesus said, "He (Holy Spirit) will glorify me because it is from me that He will receive what He will make known to you" (John 16:14). Note the term, "He will glorify me". What does this mean? It means that the Holy Spirit communicates and interprets the truth for us in favour of Christ. He reveals the hidden counsel and mystery of God's will, according to His good pleasure in Christ. As He does this, He amplifies the honour, glory and dignity of the Godhead. Indeed, this should move our hearts to appreciate the Spirit of truth and remain increasingly amazed by God's glory. Shalom!

Guided Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, thank you for your life and nature of righteousness in me. Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, I discover more about your divinity, and experience the reality in the dispensation of grace. Thank you Lord for constantly making known to me, the depths and mystery of your will, according to your good pleasure, which you purposed in Christ. Hence, I manifest the express image of Christ and spread His knowledge in my world, in Jesus' Name, Amen!
