JESUS AS LIGHT
THURSDAY 05 MAY 2022
Christ is the intense source of true light. He came into this world as light and with deep-rooted passion to deliver men who would believe in His light, from the pit of darkness and evil so they can experience the God-kind of life.
Reference: John 12:46 New Living Translation (NIV) "I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness."
Christ is the light that brings salvation to every one that believes in Him. The world is in real state of darkness and the only condition that guarantees anyone born into this world to stay out of darkness and exercise dominion over its influence is "believing in Jesus." No matter the population in the world that believes, the light of Christ is able to deliver them all from the domain of darkness. Therefore, we must come to an ever constant realisation of the deep truth that Christ is the light that shines in the dark world and darkness has not overcome it (John 1;5 NIV). Note the clause, "And darkness has not overcome it" which implies that darkness continually fights the light to no avail. So the light that is in the Son of God is what liberates men from the power and kingdom of darkness.
John 1:4 (NIV) says, "In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind." This scripture states clearly that the life in the Word is the light of all mankind. In other words, His light is life that dominates the world of darkness. 2 Corinthians 4:6 reads, 'For God, who said, "Let there be light in the darkness," has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ' (NLT). When men are living in sin, they are practically walking in darkness and how great is that darkness! It is characterized by a horrible pleasure in the cloud of evil desires and unbelief due to spiritual bondage to sin and all that displeases God.
As long as there is darkness in the world, there is a principality, power or ruler in charge of the darkness of this world. Paul called him the god of this age. 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 reads, "And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God" (NIV). The light of the glorious gospel displays the glory of Christ, but Satan the god of this age, does not want this light to prevail in the unbelieving people's mind and heart; so he fights the formation and dominion of light in their hearts, which is the brightness of the glorious gospel.
However, as Christians, through sincere prayers and continual sharing of the gospel as light bearers, the Spirit of God can unveil the mind of unbelievers and open their inner eyes, so that they can turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those sanctified by faith (see Acts 26:18 NIV). As we do so, there will be a supernatural desire and awakening delight generated in them in response to the good news. And by the conviction of the Holy Spirit, they will embrace the light of the gospel and surrender to the Lordship of Christ. Shalom!
Scripture Reading - John 3:19; Acts 23:26; John 8:12; John 9:5.
Guided Prayer: Thank you Lord for my faith in Christ, the light of the world. Through Him, the mystery of divine light is revealed in men's lives to liberate them from the bondage to sin and to bring life to them. As I share the good news, men's hearts receive light to exercise faith in Christ and by your Spirit, they are regenerated and quickened from being spiritually dead to becoming alive in Christ in Jesus' Name, Amen!
