DOMINION AND AWE - PART 3

The revelation of God's dominion and awe is a profound consciousness of our inward being that helps us to be able to stand firm in faith, with steadfast conviction and definite purpose, as we function effectively in our Christian lives.

Reference: Job 25:2 Amplified Bible (AMP) "Dominion and awe belong to God; He establishes peace and order in His high places."

Who are we discussing here? The Almighty! Our heavenly Father! The writer wants us to be intimately and perfectly acquainted with His eternal mind and counsels, and in this case, being His dominion and awe, and also His way of doing things in the heavens, which guarantees peace and order. Got it? Once you've grasped Job's incisive divine analysis concerning the Lord God, you are fully determined to access my revelation, in regard to this Scripture, in every way perfect and complete. In fact, let me tell you what this Scripture will do for you: It has one purpose - It is for you to behold God, with the eyes of His sovereignty, panoply and majesty, which in turn, will influence the way you walk with Him - at the level of His wondrous operation.

Having discussed the profound nature of dominion, the next question is "what is awe?" Awe is an emotion comparable to wonder but less joyous. According to several online definitions, it is a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder. Another definition is this: A feeling of fear and reverence. Another one is- a feeling of amazement. On Robert Plutchik's wheel of emotions, awe is modelled as a combination of surprise and fear.

Here is my personal definition of awe: It is the impartation of some real echo of God's own overwhelming sensation in our inwardness, that causes us to wonder about Him with great delight. It is not a frightening, horrible or disheartening encounter with God, but rather an inexplicable awareness that assures us of His Deity or nature of being God. It is the capacity to have wondrous sensations, resulting from experiencing God through notable encounters. Got it? When you are fully convinced of the truth that He is indeed God, without any doubt in your mind, and with a heartfelt "trembling" accompanied by solemn amazement, then you have reached the revelation of His awe.

What are the benefits of regarding God with reverential awe? Firstly, it conditions our mind and the atmosphere of our spirit to know that God is Almighty. No one is like Him; nobody can compare to Him. Psalm 89:7 says, "In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; He is more awesome than all who surround Him" (NIV). Secondly, His "awe" points us to Him, as being the One true and reliable source of security, such that we might cling to that source and conform to His will, through submission and with steadfast dedication and devotion. Beloved, nothing else secures the true serenity of a human spirit like adapting to reverential awe, in conformity to His will. To that effect, Isaiah 33:6 (ESV) says, "And He will be the security and stability of your times, A treasure of salvation, wisdom and knowledge; The fear of the LORD is your treasure."

Thirdly, regarding God with reverential fear empowers us to honour Him with our lifestyle, especially by eschewing sin and departing from all evil ways. Job 28:27-28 says, "Then God looked at wisdom and appraised it; he confirmed it and tested it. And he said to the human race, "The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding" (NIV). Stay tuned for part 4. Shalom!
