CLAIMING THE DETAILS OF YOUR INHERITANCE - PART 2

FRIDAY 02 AUGUST 2024

We are called to live a different kind of life under the new covenant, which entails living by the great and precious promises given to us on account of God's glory and excellence. And these promises enable us to share God's divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires. More below!

Reference: Galatians 3:18 New International Version (NIV)

"For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on the promise; but God in His grace gave it to Abraham through a promise."

Our inheritance is bound up in the glorious destiny of the Lord Jesus Christ who came in human flesh to die for us, and has indeed been raised from the dead, so that the saints might receive the promised eternal inheritance.

To that effect, Hebraic thematic missive numbered as Hebrews 9:15–16 (ESV) reads: "Therefore He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established." Question: How willing are you to receive or claim what is rightfully yours?

Firstly, you must understand that Jesus did not become the mediator of a new covenant in vain. So there would be an untried or unused covenant advantage on our part if we are not prepared to take hold of an inheritance that belongs to us. Therefore, it is of paramount importance that we acknowledge and activate our earthly inheritance, otherwise many pearls of great worth will remain untapped in our walk with God.

Already, Christ's death rescued and justified us from all transgressions and curse of the law. To that effect, apostle Paul says, "...Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When He was hung on the cross, He took upon Himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree." Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing He promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith" (Galatians 3:13-14 NLT). It is through the coming of Christ that the Gentiles received the same promised inheritance and the precious Holy Spirit.

Petrine epistle, according to 1st Peter 1:3-4 reveals that we've become born again Christians who have a living hope, as a result of Christ's death and resurrection that established the new covenant. Furthermore, our living hope entails an inheritance that can never perish, diminish or be destroyed, and is kept or reserved for us in heaven. The Scripture literary reads, "All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by His great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance - an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay" (NLT). To God be the glory that our inheritance in heaven is invaluable, imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, unlike the earthly inheritance.

We look forward to our heavenly inheritance with great expectation, which, in another way, implies that the appearing of Christ is certain, and so, we must continue to lay hold on eternal life on earth, which is a free gift for everyone who has received Christ as Lord under the new covenant.

One of the heavenly inheritance is the reward known as "crown of life" reserved for the encouragement of those who persevere in faith amid challenges, persecution, temptation and tribulation. The Strong's Concordance names the Greek word for a crown as "diadéma", and that is a diadem, as well as "stemma" - a wreath. So we shall receive an imperishable diadem, wreath, or crown of life for the special acts of service to God and that of faithfulness under trial. Stay tuned for part 3.  Shalom!

Scripture Reading - Jeremiah 29:11; John 1:12-13; 2 Corinthians 9:8; John 15:5.

Exuberant Declaration:

I'm born again and spiritually alive to God, and by birthright, I have a priceless inheritance as a heir of God and co-heirs with Christ. Praise God!
