BE LIKE-MINDED IN CHRIST

FRIDAY 18 NOVEMBER 2022

God is the God of patience and comfort who has accepted us as His own, for the sake of Jesus' sacrifice, whose body we are members of. Therefore, today we are looking at the attitude expected of us towards each other in Christ. We are to love one another and walk in one accord, which is Paul's desire for us expressed in the Scripture below, with regard to our brothers or sisters for whom Jesus died.

Reference: Romans 15:5 New King James Version (NKJV) "Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus."

God Himself is the greatest giver we have as Christians. One of the greatest blessings which we can receive from Him is the ability to be like-minded toward one another, which means to live in complete harmony with each other. As those who belong to Christ, there is a sublime and wonderful mutual connection and understanding that should be evident in the lives of God's own children. And this is what today's Scripture speaks about.

Why is being like-minded toward one another very important? This is because it is fitting for followers of Christ or those born of the Spirit. The body of Christ is a general name for all born again Christians. To this effect, Romans 12:5 says, "So we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another" (ESV). So this is Christ's body, and though we are many parts of this body, we all belong to each other. "The body of Christ" denotes our nominal connection with each other. For this reason, apostle Paul asks that God should grant us an imaginative connection with one other, by habit of thought. Got it?

Our walk with God is nothing, our spiritual knowledge is nothing, our Christian faith is nothing, and our participation in spiritual worship is nothing without the ability to live in complete harmony with each other. Christ is everything for us to learn from. Even our harmonious relationship with fellow saints expresses our inseparable union with Christ. Hence, walking in harmony is part of the divine plan which we can extend to others. This also means that God executes His purpose around us through our harmonious responses to each other, and so personally, I should be in agreement with God and of like mind with the saints because in the development of His vast purpose for His children, I am included. The idea is this: "In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus" (Philippians 2:5 NIV). So you must develop the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.

In conclusion, Paul the apostle said, "Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose" (Philippians 2:1-2 NLT). Therefore, may God who gives patience and encouragement, grant you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had. Shalom!

Scripture Reading - 1 Corinthians 1:10; Romans 14:19; 1 Corinthians 12:27; Colossians 3:14; 1 Peter 3:8.

Exuberant Declaration: I have the mind of Christ, who was willing to make a perfect sacrifice on the cross in order to fulfil God's will and purpose on my behalf. Today, through the knowledge of God's will, my understanding is more enlightened, and my spiritual perception is better informed to function in harmony with my fellow saints, in Jesus' Name, Amen!
