By His wisdom, God so wonderfully arranged the places and proportions of all things in creation. Paul, having marvelled at God's depth of the riches of wisdom and knowledge, explained that the only way for us to access the mind of God, including His plan and purpose for mankind, is for the Holy Spirit to reveal it to us. Nobody can figure out the mind or hidden wisdom of God through human experiment, observation or intellectual knowledge. Today we are going to consider the second question, "who can claim to be God's advisor?"

Reference: Romans 11:34-36 The Voice (Voice) "Who can fathom the mind of the Lord? Or who can claim to be His advisor? Or who can give to God in advance so that God must pay him back? For all that exists originates in Him, comes through Him, and is moving toward Him; so give Him the glory forever. Amen."

It would make sense for us to consider the book of Isaiah chapter 40 before we can answer today's question. The book of Isaiah informed us that God measured the waters in the hollow of His hand. With the breadth of His hand, He marked off the heavens. The next question that followed is: Who can fathom the Spirit of the Lord, or instruct the Lord as His counselor? (Isaiah 40:13-14 NIV).

Now we can assume correctly that these questions have been available since the era of Old covenant, before the Pauline's variant version of reaction. Beloved, who can claim to be God's advisor? Looking at the question at face value, many of us will easily jump to conclusion that nobody can advise God but that is not true. First of all, the Bible says, '"For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ.' In other words, we are in the God-class, so we can understand His mind because we have the mind of Christ.

Second, Abraham was just a man of faith who never received the Holy Spirit, but He was called a friend of God. James 2:23 (NLT) recorded that, 'And so it happened just as the Scriptures say: "Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith." He was even called the friend of God.' It was Abraham that advised and instructed God and almost stopped Him in His track when He was about to take action against Sodom and Gomorrah.

In Genesis 18:17, The LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?"(NIV). The Bible recorded how Abraham stepped forward to advise or instruct God on what to do by saying, "Will You really sweep away the righteous with the wicked? What if there are fifty righteous ones in the city? Will You really sweep it away and not spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous ones who are there? Far be it from You to do such a thing- to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous and the wicked are treated alike. Far be it from You! Will not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?" Beloved, that's Abraham instructing God and negotiating His mercy. In short, Abraham reminded God to do what was right.

In a similar way, nobody knows God's thoughts except he that has His Spirit. In Christ we can know the mind of God. The difference between us and Abraham, is that, graciously, God has given us His Spirit to reside in us and reveal His thoughts and plans to us. Primarily, that's the means by which anyone comes to faith in Christ. Amos 3:7 says, "Indeed, the Sovereign LORD never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets." Sometimes, the revealed is altered when its not favourable because we instructed Him and reversed it through prayer. Or don't you know that we can instruct the Spirit of God on what to do through our prayer lives? When you pray to see a reverse, you engage God's hand to establish your decrees and instructions.

The Bible says, "The secret of the Lord is with those who fear him" ( Psalm 25:14 NKJV). Who are they that fear the Lord? Those that by faith, have come to the knowledge of Christ through salvation and now live in communion with God. We can know more of God's mind and instruct Him as we get serious with our intimate relationship with Him. We can also have a better insight into what is present, and a better foresight of what is to come through His Spirit in us. With that knowledge, we can instruct and negotiate important matters with Him as the gods (associates of the God-class). Shalom!
